Is Microsoft coming out with a new flight simulator game soon?

As far as anyone knows, the Microsoft Corporation will not be continuing development of the "Flight Simulator" series of titles. After FSX and the subsequent "expansion pack" was released, the ACES Team (Flight Simulator development team) was disbanded. It is very unlikely at this point in time that we will see a new flight simulator from Microsoft.

Not that it matters that much really.. FSX hasn't reached it full potential yet and I'm sure it wont for awhile.  8-)

If M'soft is not advancing FSX and no one has the original coding but M'soft, how can it be advanced? Guys can model airplanes as they do now but as far as improving any points that could use a touch-up here and there, how can that happen?

I read on flyawaysimulation forum...

"Well it's been said, as written on Phil Taylor's blog that we should expect a Microsoft Flight Simulator 11 at the end of 2010, perhaps in good time for 2011 and possibly being called FS11 or Microsoft Flight Simulator 11.  The official name for the next version of Flight Sim has still to be confirmed."

This surprised me after reading all the reports around the begining of the year saying Microsoft were to scrap it.  I`ve been unable to find anything else about it..  Maybe I`m confused again.  ::)

  Anyone know more???

IMO Its true that a lot more can be done with/for FSX.  And I still dont have a pc that can run it to half its pottential. I`ll proberly have it up to speed by the time FS11 comes out and have to start compromising performance / Quality again anyway.  Sigh.

Because the hardware needed to fully exploit everything in that coding has yet to be invented and sold to the public.

We're just now starting to crack the hardware barrier for FSX to be able to run smooth, consistently, and reliably.

I think Microsoft realized they screwed their marketing machine with FSX, by the time they would be able to bring a FS11 to market, simmers would finally be enjoying FSX to it's mostly full potential, and just like has happened / still happening with FS9, die hard loyalists will not want to/ or see a need, to switch to the newer platform, only to have to live with the tweaking all over again.

They just figured out how to do cloud shadows in FSX, something they said couldn't be done, so I'd say as long as we keep hungry, and keep exploring the game engine, the need for a FS11 will remain a long way off.

A2A, REX and OrbX are the most noticeable companies to have just started to get FSX to it's full potential

As already answered above, we still have to discover sceneries with 1m precision mesh and 7cm/pixel ground textures.
We are still waiting for hardware that would allow the usage of the maximum autogen (6000 trees and 6000 buildings per cell).
A2A with the famous ACCUSIM addon is proving for the third time (B377 first, then the P-47, and now the Cub) that the limits of FSX are far from being reached. In fact, they may be proving that FSX has no limits at all.

Actually FTX Tamsworth has 7cm Textures :D

You're right ! I saw the video just yesterday !
But I was talking about "big areas" (like, a region or a country), not single airports ;)

who knows, maybe the aces team suspected they were going to get the boot, so they built fsx for the future, so we could enjoy it for many years to come with the advanced technology....ok...far fetched.....anyways, i applaud them...i even put on some latex gloves, so my clapping will sound twice as loud... ;D

one of the things that would put fsx to a next level would be coupling fsx with something like google maps or even a 3d mapping of the world so you could, if flying an helicopter land on your own driveway. but it's only dream too much rights to be negociated and probably too much power needed by the hardware.

Really?? I did not know this! You have a link perhaps?  :-?

I remember about a year after FSX came out someone was able to do that. They streamed google earth images into FSX but it wasn't very practical and took a LOT of resources so it died out. Perhaps someone can find the link to that? I cant...  :-/
