Self adjusting flaps on the Boeing F/A-18 Hornet

Hi All,

I used to consider myself a fair carrier pilot in the FS2004 days, but FSX is kicking my butt... until I found the FSX Blue Angles Carrier Operations Tutorial...http://www.vimeo.com/2950519

I'm getting better, however... The flaps on the F/A-18 automatically adjust themselves, throwing off my AoA.

I haven't seen anyone else complaining about this. Is there a way to stop them from adjusting? Is there something I'm missing?

Gee, I almost feel insulted being asked if AP is on, but then I remember the first question in troubleshooting "Is it plugged in?"


No, AP is not on. It's the F/A-18 that comes with the FSX Acceleration pack.

Has no one else ever noticed?

Just for info -
it's nothing to do with autopilot.

IRL
F/A-18 flap deployment is automatic at low speed and AOA.
This is simulated within constraints of the FSX mechanism.

To stop them auto-adjusting,
you need to fly the correct profile.

Beware also, as IRL,
high AOA, or hard-turns, will result in rapid and intense energy bleed.

Yeah, I'm a member on FSDT forums and they've made a lot of manuals. It's the best site for the F-18 Accel because they made the cockpit !
And yes, it's an automatic feature. There are loads of topics about it on FSDT forums.

I thought flying at 600ft at 150-200kts was the correct profile...

I'll have to keep a closer eye on my AoA, that's probably what's goofing things up.

I should keep AoA around 8

You know... it's amazing how much easier it is to land when I fly the aircraft correctly.

5 successful traps so far... now I have to try it with out "ignoring collisions".

Well, I thought this was solved...

When I'm flying the Carrier Practice or Tutorial missions, my flaps constantly change.

In Free Flight, it's not a problem.

Isn't there a switch somewhere in the VC to disable the auto-flaps ? I can't remember exactely, but I think it was not far away from the throttle command.

Didn't find anything useful. I did however find the rest of my light switches.

Skittles -
The mission engine imposes a fairly hefty processing impact.

You'll need to scale your sliders back slightly
compared with settings when flying in the sandbox.
