MSVCR80.dll Crashes

I keep getting MSVCR80.dll crashes, it happens randomly usually after I use an instrument such as the GPS or Radio Stack using the shift + # shortcut keys. Does anyone know the cause and/or how to fix it?

Thank you so much and thank you so much for being able to accept my stupid requests for help every 5 minutes.  :-[

Try googling the exact error message that you are getting.  I have found answers to most of my error messages that way.

Hi Folks

MSVCR80.dll is a component of the MS C Runtime Libraries.
These are .NET components, held in the WinSxS assemblies folders.
Applications use the latest versions installed, (unless explicilty told otherwise).

There was a problem with a number of versions, (v870 - v3078).

Installing VCRedist versions 3079, (24th Oct 2008), and newer will fix it.

Warning 1
Do not download an MSVCR80.dll from the various dll sites.
Do not install an MSVCR80.dll in your system or system32 folder.

Warning 2
The MS Download center version dated 11/29/2007
Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)
will NOT fix this.

You must use the newer version from the MS support/MSDN site.

A quick test,
(might not work if you've ignored warning 1)

Open FSX.

On the GUI menu
click Missions.

Select any default mission in the list.
Click Go to briefing.

Does FSX CTD ?

If yes,
go to FS-Developer - Wiki - Missions - Go To Briefing - CTD (FSX/A)
and see the Solution links.

EDIT 3
You must use the link above,
as windows update only installs single specific unrelated dlls.
(Unless you have Visual Studio).

EDIT 2
Try just running Windows Update.
MSVCR80.dll v4053 was rolled out with the July 28, 2009
security update for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1

EDIT 1
Hangfire with this.

MS may have finally released to windows update,
either 29/07 or due on Tuesday.

Alright, I managed to find the right Visual Studio Redistributable on Microsoft's website and installed it, prior to doing that I ran Windows Update but there was nothing yet.

Hopefully it'll work, I'll get to test it out tomorrow evening and will report back. Thank you for your help, I couldn't have asked for a better response.  :)

Hi Folks

usapatriot -
It would have helped & saved time
if you'd posted the issue details here,
rather than in your FSX rant thread.

To clarify
the issue is nothing whatsoever to do with FSX.

Windows update only installs single specific unrelated dlls.

You MUST install the MSDN - KB961894 full v3079 redist
Make sure you pick the correct language and processor version.

I'm a bit frustrated to report that the game now crashes even sooner than it did before, still the same MSVCR80.dll error. Now I can only get 1-2 minutes into a flight before it occurs, usually while or soon after I've switched the settings on the F/A-18's MFD's.

I'm beginning to think you have a bad set of FSX DVD disks.  I may have missed it, but have you contacted M$ to see if that may be the problem?
