Anyone with knowledge of JF C-130? Need help

Postby Mistro » Sun Aug 09, 2009 8:06 pm

I'm new to flying the c-130 and ran into an issue that I don't know if it's a bug, or I'm not monitoring something right. Shortly after takeoff, I notice my speedometer was at zero. This happened to me twice on 2 separate occasions. The first time I thought it was no big deal so I continued flying and a while after the engines just stopped. luckily there was an Island nearby and I made an emergency landing with no power (so proud of myself). The second time I left Panama City, all was well until somewhere between 10,000 and 15,000 ft. the speedometer was dead again. So I decided to make a u-turn to the nearest airport and while on approach, the speedometer was working again as I decended below 10,000 ft. So I turned back around to continue my flight and after climbing again the speedometer was back at zero. Another u-turn to land and it was working again after decending. Is there something I should know, or is this a bug?

Pitot Anti-icing should be "ON", would be my guess.   ;)

C-130 Hercules from Just Flight. I got the DVD from a retail store. BTW is there a hotkey list for these planes? Don't see none in the manual.

I'm not familiar with Justflight's aircraft addons, so I couldn't tell you if they model icing conditions, or other realistic engine damage or failures. The manual would get into that more.

Thanks everyone. The JustFlight's models are actually by Captain Sim. I also noticed that I had indicated airspeed checked instead of true airspeed. I put it on true airspeed to see the difference, don't know if that had anything to do with it. I will also check out the pilot heat. Again thanks.

"True Air Speed" VS "Indicated" is not the problem.  If you get a Herky Bird to an altitude where the airspeed is "0", without using slew and taking a coffee break, I'd like to shake you hand.  ;)

I'd lay good odds it's the pitot heat.

Its been awhile, but if I remember right, true airspeed is calibrated airspeed corrected for pressure and temperature....or something to that effect.... ;D

The airspeed indicator is supposed to display indicated airspeed, not true airspeed... ;)

Thank you again for your replies. I came to the conclusion that something is wrong with the C-130s I bought. After my last post the engines cut off again in mid flight. Again I got the plane back on the ground and found out that I was out of fuel even though I have FSX set at unlimited fuel in the realism options. It didn't bother me too much because I thought maybe it's time to learn how to manage fuel. Refueled the plane and then the damn flares started shooting out the back for no reason at all. Another thing I tried was to start a fresh flight at another location with another model and it seems the same symptoms tranfered over to the new plane (another c-130). I even unistalled and did a fresh install. This is not the first time flares started randomly shooting out the plane. I will try to contact JustFlight and see if they can help. Otherwise I think I'm done with this buggy piece of software.
