Does anyone know if Windows 7 will be able to run FSX?
Additionally, does anyone know if it will be able to run FSX addons, like payware stuff?
I'm thinking of getting the new OS, but I want to make sure FSX won't give me problems.

Most of the users here that installed Win7 did it because of the good FSX performance on this system !

I've run it on the Beta release,(64-bit) and did not notice any remarkable difference from my usual XP-SP3 drive. (I installed Win7 and a fresh install of FSX on a separate hard drive) Since then, I've installed the Release Candidate version of 7, but haven't tried FSX on it yet. Maybe someone here can create a comparison flight that would show up the strengths and/or weaknesses of 7 compared to Vista or XP.??

YEAH I'm running windows 7 rc1 x64 ultimate and I can tell you it runs just fine on here ....in fact it runs a touch smoother if anything...so come time of release I should say it would run fine.

I've been running FSX on 7 and it works fine. I've preordered W7 already.

Just tried starting FSX in W7 RC and I get an error message "error = 25 (null)" and FSX won't start. Didn't have this problem with the Beta version of W7. Anyone got a solution?

I got that when I dragged the .exe start button out of the folder onto the desktop. It would launch from the folder, but not the desktop shortcut.
I dragged it out of the folder and held it over the taskbar at the bottom until it asked to pin to taskbar? Then the shortcut worked and is a quickstart button.

Thanks! That works just fine, still can't understand why that should be necessary but hey - thats the Micro$oft way, right?

I still get a message saying something about Windows needing to revert to basic color scheme when starting FSX, but that doesn't appear to affect the program. Anyone else get this message?

It does that with Vista too, actually... the program is designed to turn off Aero (or similar visual schemes, I guess) when it starts.

I think it's way too troublesome with Win 7...
Major problem: It's impossible to get access to "Documents and Settings" folder, so one can make the tweaks for cloud popping etc.
I've tried everything from "Take Ownership" to running a batch file from Elevated Cmd Prompt, and still NO access... Same stupid nazi-system as Vista - Ooops: Vista 7..!
Any ideas how to fix this??

I did a flight (in W7 64bit RC) last night - default Beaver from Kenmore Air to Victoria Harbour in spotty clouds and shower conditions. I turned most of the settings to 75% or so, except water which I left at default (25%?) I set frame rates at 60, and my system managed to deal with frame rates in the 50s without stutters. So far, OK. But here's the catch - I use a Saitek X45 stick and throttle, and, probably due to running the 64-bit version of W7, it was erratic at best, and downright diabolical at worst, even though I set it up. I now understand that the Saitek drivers need to be updated (Vista 64-bit) and I have downloaded them, but before I install them I have a couple of questions: Will this affect the Saitek settings in my original 32bit XP- FSX (on a separate drive)? And, should I install the Saitek Vista 64-bit software upgrade before , after, or not at all? Anyone been through this? (I have resisted a Vista upgrade, so I have no experience with it)
