What's up with this aircraft.  It don't seem to want to fly the course or especially to it using the NAV and the AP.  It also just took a nose dive on me as I was decending into KAVL.  Flew right into the ground and all I was doing was reducing my altitude.  Is this thing a known goof ball or what?

Steve, you absolutely must read the instructions for flying the Airbus. Check out the article in the Learning Center.

Airbus uses a fly-by-wire system and the autopilot is totally different from anything you've ever seen before...  :o

There are...a number of things that can go wrong with the A321, if you don't fly her properly...

The rudder does not activate until several dozen feet AGL.

Come in too slow (like I usually do because I fly it from short [grass] fields, not proper airports) and the throttles will lock in TOGA mode, forcing you to do a go around. AFAIK, there is no override for TOGA mode, apart from turning off the flight computers, which is dangerous. You can also do the same to regain control of the rudder.

However, it does not look like you experienced any of the above...was autopilot on at the time you were descending?
