Need help saving textures to aircraft cfg file

Hello,  I'm new here and am totally amazed with this forum.  Until recently I was just buying expansions for FSX and had no idea any of this kind of stuff existed.  I've pretty much figured out how to do most things when adding stuff but as far as textures go I get as far as copying and pasting to the aircraft file but when I go to save I can't and get a message to check the correct pathway or file name.  I'm not real computer literate so I'm kind of lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks

Hi & welcome. I suspect you're using Vista. This is a common problem caused by Vista security features treating files in certain locations (like the Program Files directory) as system files. It will not allow them to be edited or modified. One way over it is to paste the file you wish to edit to your Desktop. Edit the file & save the changes before pasting it back where it came from. Please try it & tell me if that fixed it.

I suggest taking backup copies of any files you intend editing before attempting to edit them.

Thanks for the info that seems to be working.  I really hate Vista.
Thanks again.

You're welcome. Glad it worked. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

There may well be other ways over this problem. The only knowledge I have of Vista is what I read here on this forum.

I also had the same problem with Vista and it is as if Vista is protecting you to the point where you can't function.  If you right click on your FSX root directory, select properties you will see several tabs on the top of the properties window.  Click on security and you should see several names including Administrator and your name.  Select your name and in a box just below the list of names there will be al list of options with allow or deny to the right of each of the options.  click under allow next to "Full Control".  Then click apply at the bottom right.  It will take a few minutes after you click on apply for all the permissions to be granted so be patient.  Once it finishes click OK and you will be able to open edit and save *.cfg files within FSX.
