If you have photoshop, you can open up DDS files directly. You don't have to use DXTbmp. This might not work unless you have a NVIDIA plugin, but I 'm pretty sure.

::) and who told you that dtxbmp is for working in dds format?
neither photoshop although you can open things with it

You have to work under PSD images Then Once you complete the repaint You will drop the bitmap.PSD into Imagetool the it will flip it for you you can compress it into ddsdtx3 or ddsdtx 5 and save it JUST for the use of FSX game

The official software to compress DDS. Open, edit etc is ImageTool.exe is located in the FSX-SDK

In WinXp

C:\Program files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Terrain SDK\Imagetool.exe

Alex,

DXTBMP.exe (lastest release) will happily export DDS files.

If you install the nVidia plugin(s) for Photoshop, then you most certainly can export directly from your PSD file to DDS format...

...in fact, there are many DDS formats, so one must be careful to select the correct version! (DXT1 or DXT5).

In either case though, the user must manually "Flip Vertical" before exporting as DDS. Imagetool.exe will "auto-flip" the image when saving.

Also, nVidia makes a plugin for creating normal (bump) maps!
8-)
