I don't do DX10 due to massive incompatibility issues w.r.t add-ons.

I don't do 64bit due to same reason.

Vista is giving me massive problems w.r.t "driver stopped responding" issues.

I was told XP is more stable.

Well, I use XP and have very good results. Though, vista might have some better things. I use both.

It's been said Vista is better for FSX. Don't know how true that is though..

I have Vista 32-bit running amazing on my laptop. Not a single problem.
FSX or other things.
(Only my lazy C2D is a problem. My 9600 is also amazing. )

Actually i'd say none of them. If there was more for Windows 7 Beta, i'd get it right away (If you could ^_^). (Only I didn't get it when I could; I hate myself )

I use Vista Home Premium 64 bit with no problems of compatability at all.

I gave away DX10 a long time ago, although my OS and videocard are capable.  It was one of those bad decisions made by Microsoft and it is not worth any effort to use it.

However the topic is an old and stale one.  My impression after reading hundreds of posts in many forums, is that XP is a great and stable platform.   But if you have the memory, and turn off the decorations in Vista, then it really works.

As Nick says, horses for courses.  But for me a vote is a waste of time as by now we have all made our decisons on our OS and its too late to change.

I think it has alot to do with how good ur computer is. if u have vista on a pc that has little ram and vid card that isn't really bad but not very good either and not a top of the line processer xp probably will run better it better. but if u have a pc that has awesome stats vista is more stable ( i think because i haven't had it crash as much as xp crashed on me). but i am open for change if u have a good arguement to shoot back at me i am willing to comply (mabey)

FSX SP2 needs a 64bit OS for maximum perf and memory use

Regardless of which one (XP or Vista)


In reality FSX needs the 64bit OS even if it isnt SP2 which is why thay change that in SP2/Acceleration

If the version of FSX is not SP2 the fsx.exe file must be edited to use the LARGEADDRESSWARE flag


Any system with a greater the 512MB video card and more than 2GB of memory MUST have a 64bit OS installed for best results without OOM and other issues

And be aware.. A ATi x2 and Nvidia dual core products are as useless as boobs on a bull to FSX.. the 2nd core and memory will not be used.. so you have a 512MB video card, not 1024 for FSX

Vista 64 bit and have absolutely no problems with it from the start and it works beautifully.

I've got Vista x64 Home Premium and have had no trouble with FSX.

According to your specs, you have 4gb memory... So you should be looking at 64-bit operating sytems if anything.

I would choose Vista.

It is more modern, it will have longer lasting support, it caches better (yeah, that massive 'ramhog' is actually making the system work better) it has DX10 (though AFAIK this isn't properly supported in FSX anyway)

If you use a 32-bit operating system, I think that would leave you with about 2.5GB memory. As far as I am aware video memory is part of your total memory. Roughly a 3.5GB limit for *most* 32-bit operating systems, minus that 1GB for graphics memory leaves you with 2GB of system memory - So you have halved your amount.


64-bit Vista is probably the best option, then 32-bit Vista and finally XP because it is old and support for it is getting more limited.
