Slingloads --How do YOU do it?

Hi,

I wanted to see what everyone's techniques are to perform a slingload/hoist operation, in Accel's new Agusta/Westland chopper... i think we could help a lot of people (including me) by sharing our ideas on how to make this most difficult task more approachable

let me share my technique i developed... it might be a little crude or unprofessional, but i'm new to this whole 'lifting stuff off the ground' world, so i think it's valid

Slingloads --How do YOU do it?

I don't.

;D 8-)

Something about that helicopter is way too touchy, I think there's a fix out there somewhere but whatever. Ive always thought I was something of a good FS Chopper pilot but after trying to hover and rescue people from water, or carrying a crate for 40 miles over the ocean, and failing, I just gave up

that chopper IS too touchy i thought it was only me...
i thought about reducing realism settings to make it controllable

it seems obvious now that i think about it... shouldn't sling load helicopters be like... stable? ...this one is a lot less stable than any other in FS

i'll try that fix you mentioned

Slingloads --How do YOU do it?

I don't.

This has been my solution for all of the chopper missions

found the tweaked .cfg for the EH101 (fsx helis pg 6, here at SimV)... off to try it and see if that thing becomes controllable now

Oh I like the chopper missions, just not if I have to carry something :P

Let me know if that CFG works!

i tried the modified .cfg, and all i can say is, what a difference!!!  :o

the EH101 is actually stable now... it's perfectly possible to do the missions with this tuned .cfg ...i can't say anything about how realistic it is, but it feels more natural for a big chopper to respond slower

basically, the chopper is much less responsive (which is a good thing in this case) ...reacting slower to every action, so you have a lot more time to correct and adjust your attitude before it starts swaying all over like it used to... it feels heavy now

i did the sugarloaf repair mission without breaking a sweat, and if it weren't for random crashes (software crashes, not me crashing ;) ) and some weird mission bugs, i would have nailed the kayak rescue, the top secret package delivery, and the slingload tutorial... (apparently after you get your rescue victim inside, and disengage the hook, you have to lower the cable again WITHOUT engaging the hook, lest the victim decide to take another ride on the cable  :P ...this failed me a mission or two already)

anyways, the chopper is much better now... (IMO at least, i have no idea if it's realistic) ... the only weird thing is that now instead of having to push it forward, like a regular chopper, the new dynamics have a tendency to accelerate forward, and you need to stay sharp and pull it back before you lose control of your speed (and lose your load like me :P (again))

Cheers
