runway conditions: trees

I just like to make note of amusing glitches and other stuff that makes me laugh in fsx sometimes, so here's the latest:

I found an old Houston sectional chart and thought I'd use it to just fly around and see if I can find my way to tiny airports without using the fsx map, just beacons and the chart--I'm getting better at navigating!--and I managd to find everything I was looking for (after circling a few times where I thought the airport ought to be in a few cases...I'm not that good at navigating yet).  Anyway, I got to this one airpark and there was a copse of trees growing right across the middle of the runway, and some shrubs at one end too.  I like a challenge, so I went ahead and landed there anyway, steering around the trees...but jeez, why is there not some kind of something in fsx to keep the flora off of the runway surfaces?

This is probably still not as amusing to me as the houses that show up like right at the end of various runways or on river islands that I know IRL do not have any buildings, or for that matter the fact that you can evidently collide with AI aircraft with no ill effects...is this how it is for everybody?

I know what you mean.

I once started a flight with the Trike around my home town and found trees flourishing on the stands of a soccer stadium!

I know what you are talking about. While flying around KSEA the other day I saw this:

I then thought, its time to go to bed or stop drinking beer while flying! The second is not an option so I went to bed.

ha!  that is pretty great...reminds me also of the ground traffic (just regular cars, not fuel trucks or anything) that I sometimes see crossing the runway at Norfolk NAS.

Try a flight out of Wattisham, in the UK-- there's  the tower  right in the middle of the runway. That sure made for a tricky landing.

Speaking of flying around Houston. I live north of Houston around KDWH and fly out of that airport alot (real life) and mostly fly down to Galveston Island (KGLS-Scholes) & Conroe (KCXO). I decided to load up FSX from KDWH to KGLS flying IFR to see which route they would direct me to Galveston. To my suprise they (FSX) sent me down the same course as in real life!  8-)  Do you think that was a lucky chance?

Sorry to get off subject.

I hope that's not just chance...I think there are quite a few things that FSX does really well, and I hope I am learning something in my no-risk simulated navigation adventures (or misadventures, sometimes...) that might one day pay off in real life.

On the other hand, if you have any need to practice a short landing with foliage obstacles, in FSX, El Campo airpark (TS96), just west of Wharton Regional, is a good place to go...   ;D
