Lost my water and patience

Hello everyone,
To get us started, I believe this is an UTX problem.
I had to do a reinstall of SP1 and SP2. So I uninstalled Acceleration (which I believe installs both of the service packs itself). I rebooted, installed SP1, booted the default flight, rebooted, installed SP2, booted the default flight, and there's no water where there's supposed to be. I installed the UTX USA ACCEL patch and still nothing. I uninstalled UTX and still nothing. I reinstalled it and still no water. I uninstalled UTX and GEXn and still no water. I reinstalled SP2 and still no water. LOL.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Andy

Usually speaking it is a UTX problem as far as I know, all I can suggest is rebuild the terrain config in UTX, by changing your settings and apply them. Thats what Nick told me to do with mine. ;)
Sorry cant offer any more advise :(

Hey Carcher,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I already tried that and it didn't work.
Any other advice is appreciated.

I had a similar problem that happened when I flew with FTX on and I was trying to fly outside of the FTX area (like the United States). Try with turning FTX off and if that doesn't work, I seem to remember something about a patch for UTX around somewhere that was supposed to fix a similar problem, but I can't remember where it was.

Is this just in UTX regions? Do you have water everywhere else?
This issue is usually caused by your terrain.cfg not having the correct entries for UTX. This can be caused for example by running with FTX mode on or another addon that uses its own custom terrain.cfg.
The fix is simple. Just enter one of the UTX setup tools. This checks the current terrain.cfg and adds the relevant entries if they are not there. There is no need to change any settings. You can verify this by opening your terrain.cfg in notepad and scrolling down. You should see lots of entries for UTX features.
If you have FTX and want to fly in UTX regions with FTX mode on then run the UTX setup tool with FTX mode on. This will add the UTX entries into FTX's custom terrain.cfg enabling both to run side by side.

I don't have FTX installed (it replaces the tree textures and I like the default trees). I will try when I get home from work to see if I have any luck. Thanks for the replies guys. I'll get back after I try later tonight.

Are you sure you have ALL of your area's scenery library checked off? I didn't have mine checked on one time and where there was a river, there was nothing.

Hey Paul,
It's only happening in the UTX USA region. I just did a reinstall of UTX USA and it's still doing it. Don't know what else to try :-/

I also tried deleting the terrain.cfg file and doing an Acceleration repair.... Still won't work. I have too many addons installed for me to be in the mood to do a complete reinstall right now.. :-/
Any more ideas?

Doesn't UTX do a backup of terrains/textures before it installs? If so you could find the folder where the backups were stored and copy them back to your FSX folder. Than re-install UTX.
This is the reason I have FSX on it's own drive and do Acronis Images of that drive before I install any addons just in case.

Have you tried posting this question on
www.simforums.com? That's where the support is for this product.

I would definately recommend, as Flighthound suggested, that you post on Simforums, which is the official UTX forum. The guys there are very helpful and usually pretty quick to help out.
Do you get three ticks when you open the UTX setup tool?
Also can you verify that all the UTX layers in the scenery library are switched on.
Have you tried opening your terrain.cfg in notepad and checking that you have lots of entries near the bottom that read:
[texture.***]
Name=UT_*********
There should be lots beginning with the UT prefix. This will at least elimintate the terrain.cfg as the culprit. It is the terrain.cfg in the root Flight Simulator X directory that you want.
If the entries are not there, then as I said above, simply opening the UTX Setup Tool will add these entries.
I don't think this is a missing texture issue as then FSX would display black squares where the textures should be.
It could be an issue with texture mapping in UTX itself. Inside the UTX setup tool, click on 'advanced' and then 'modify texture mappings for UT features'. Put a dot in 'waterbodies' radio button and then verify that the mapping for each feature is set to 'OCEAN_SEA_LARGE_LAKE_0'.
If that doesn't help then I would suggest trying to get hold of a pristine terrain.cfg. It could be the UT entries themselves in this file. The uninstall of UTX may not be removing the UTX entries so reinstalling would not fix it if the entries are the problem.

Hello,
I've posted the situation over at Simforums to see if they can work anything out. I haven't been home the past couple of days, so hopefully tomorrow or Friday during the day I will have time to take care of the problem. Thank you all for the help you gave,
Andy
