Setting up a new install of FSX, and wanted to know what you're favorite addons were...scenery, textures, ac, etc.

Thx!

GEXn, UTX, and REX are must haves. They are all payware, but they will have the biggest impact. You could also get FTX which makes Australia probably the best looking place on Earth in the sim

Is Ultimate Weather or Traffic X worth it?

No. For weather, use Active Sky Advanced. And for traffic, use WoAI. www.world-of-ai.com

awesome, thx...2 more questions:

1. with WoAI, do you just install the packages you want?
2. I assume I can install a few add-ons with the fresh install of FSX, and then install more add-ons later as needed, right?

Yes you can do that with WoAI. I have all of the packages downloaded and installed. It took me more than two hours to download them all ;D and I don't think all of them installed correctly.

After a fresh install of FSX, make sure you installed the Acceleration pack if you have it, before installing anything else. If you don't have the Acceleration pack, install SP1 and then SP2. Make sure you read the stickies at the top of the FSX forums to know how to properly install them. After everything is installed and set up correctly, you can install all the addons you want. However, GEXn and UTX have a specific order. First, install UTX and then GEXn. Also, if you have landclass, it would be easier to install it after UTX and GEXn, as there is a certain position it takes in the scenery library.

I have the Gold addition, so I'll follow the instructions for acceleration.

Where does REX fit into the install order for UTX and GEXn? Also, can they be installed on the same drive as FSX (WD 640GB Black, so plenty of space)?

With WoAI how does having it installed and in use affect the performance of the game?

Thanks,

Dan.

Yes, of course it makes an impact on the game performance, since the computer has to handle more in the game. When you have a lot of AI installed (at about 65 % Traffic), your frames may drop with 5-10 frames per second, depending on your system. All my AI nearly kills my frame rates at airports like EGLL, KJFK, KEWR and those big airports. But then again, my computer is a laptop with a mediocre processor and a mediocre GPU. ;D

If you have a Quad-Core (Extreme) or i7 processor, you should be okay with a nice amount of AI.

I don't know why, but Active Sky X crashes my FSX at random... :-/

Ok thanks I only have a 3GHz duel core with a Ati Radeon 4850 graphics card but it seems to run ok with that (after Nick's tweaks that are on this forum lol) ;D

Also would REX affect things that same?

Just wondering before I spend the money lol.

On the REX website, in the Reviews section there has been said it takes a few minutes to load the themes, but when it's loaded, it's worth it (And we don't know their comp. specs! They may be sitting with old Pentium 4s or processors like that ::)). It's been said REX improves your frames a little bit, actually. It may depend. It improves the FPS on some computers, not on some others, and maybe lowers them on a few. I don't know, I don't have it yet either (hopefully soon though :))

If you have a 3 GHz dual core and an ATi 4850, you should be okay.

REX can be installed before or after GEXn/UTX. REX is for the environment such as the skies, clouds, water, and some airport runway/tarmac textures. GEXn are better terrain textures and UTX is a landclass product to tell the game where to place the correct textures.

WoAI doesn't hurt frames as much as payware traffic addons and is much better in my opinion. Make sure you disable the default FSX traffic when you install it. In the FSX settings, set your traffic to no more than 59% if you have a stronger system.

Essel... Try uninstalling and reinstalling Accel/SP2 and SP1 if you have that too. Then see if ASX will work.
