Scenery Library where is it?

Ok I got a problem with the scenery library. Over the last few months I have installed lots of scenery etc, UTX US/CAN, GEXn, VFR Genx, FTX plus other addons from Simv. and lots of them. Yesterday when I started FSX up it started to do the database and scenery thing as if I had installed new scenery etc, but I hadnt. Ok no problem just let it do its stuff then fly, which I did. Then I closed it and started it up again. Again it did the database and scenery load again. Needless to say it did it EVERY time I started FSX without me adding any new scenery at all.

Now all of a sudden, today, I uninstalled Tileproxy, deleted the FSX.cfg and did a defrag with OOdefrag and to my amazement I have no scenery listed in my Library that has been installed in the last few months. My question is how has it happened and where is the 'scenery library' info kept? Is it in FSX or scenery.cfg or somewhere else?

Do I have to reinstall everything again or can I just add to library?

Thanks for any suggestions

Well it looks like no-one knows the answer.

Just to say that I been using FS9 today for a change and its done the same with that, scenery library has got rid of tons of addons. Ive just spent an hour putting things back in.

Something must have caused both FS9 and FSX to revert back to a previous library which MUST be stored somewhere on the pc, otherwise it couldnt have 'gone back' to settings from

I think people would comment if they thought they could help. I've never experienced anything like this before. As it's affected more than one application (FSX & FS9) I suspect it has something to do with this.

To the best of my knowledge the scenery database is in Scenery.cfg. There should be a copy of the file in the same location as FSX.cfg & FS9.cfg. I'm not sure which one is read by FS & assume the other one is a backup.

Youre right Hagar  it has to be one of them. So logically thinking it must be Tileproxy that stuffed evrything as its the only program that could possibly interfere with both.   ::) Thats one of the reasons I uninstalled it because it caused problems for me.

BTW scenery.cfg only lists the default scenery(plus Acceleration) not addons so it cant be stored there.  ;)  I would be interested if anyone can enlighten me on its whereabouts. Maybe its time to ask MS themselves   :-/

Anyway thanks Hagar for your time and hope the South Downs are still as beautiful as I remember them  ;)

All the best

FSX stores more than 1 scenery.cfg file.

Looking at file dates: The one located with the fsx.cfg file appears to be a backup/fallback,created at FSX install/update. Another, in the FSX main folder, is also a backup created at FSX install.

The active scenery.cfg file is in ..\Documents and Settings\All users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\... (in Windows XP). Here you'll also find:

If you installed addons that directly modify the scenery.cfg file you may also find several 'backup' scenery.cfg
