New to FSX

Hey People.

I'm fairly new to the FS series, and I want to learn as much as I can and this site looks like a good place to start.

I have completed most of the tutorials in-game and I can't really learn much more from them and this is why I am searching for advice from places such as here.

Could someone point me in the direction of some decent start off tutorials?  My take-off and in-flight control are both fine, it's just the landing I usually struggle with.

P.S. I'm using a PS3 Controller at the moment untill my proper joystick arrives on Monday/Tuesday - It actually does the job quite well although somethings, such as throttle are still awkward to controll at times.

Well, I personally have never used a tutorial other than the one in Flight Simulator(whatever the version may be, I started with FS98, bought at yard sale 6 years ago, then FS2004 about 2 years ago, then FSX the day it came out!). If you need practice landing, do the "Introduction to Jets" tutorial repeatedly until you are improving. It is a great tutorial to get the hang of everything. Or, do the landing tutorial repeatedly, if you prefer props. Or, to learn the most, do a mix of both! Landing is the most difficult and important part of flying. My first real-life landing(in a home-made RV-4 of a friends) was terrifying, same goes for flight simulator. It takes lots of practice. I am still refining my skills for landing! So, on that note, I wish you the best of luck on learning how to land. If you need anything else, just post here, and I will do my best to help!  ;)

Well to learn landing, I would NOT recommend the Transitioning to Jets tutorial. Don't try to run until you know you can walk right?  Practice your landings in a small plane like the Cessna 172, use the learning center lessons for private pilot.

If you want to really get anything out of this sim you should treat it like real life and start small and gradually transition to the bigger jets.

Reason I referred to that tutorial was because, since I don't know if he is talking about specific type of plane, I thought I might as well throw all of 'em in!  :D

Brett Henderson where are you?
He has some great tutorials that will help alot and it will be teaching the real way. I'd suggest those over the in-game tutorials anyday and yeah when learning all new stuff fly a nice easy prop airplane.

Yes their slow, not as cool, and you dont feel as big of a pilot but trust me its alot better way to learn.
You don't just hop into a 747 and start flying, like I did and it just stalled all the time so I parked it  8-)......

I have learned by YEARS of flight sim experience. I have had a fair amount of flight sims. I have used Flight Simulator, Flight Gear, and X-Plane. Yes, I learned by experience. When I was younger, I NEVER did tutorials. Of course, I have grown up. It was my mistake suggesting the jet tutorial. I just did not know if he was referring to landing in specific aircraft types. For example, I, at one time, had EXTREME difficulty landing large aircraft. But, I could land props or small planes. That is why I mentioned both the jet and prop tutorial. The tutorial with the J-3 Cub is great, because it teaches approach and landing strategy's. Again, sorry if my post and my intentions were misunderstood.

Go to the Learning Center, and click the Lessons Tab. You should at least do the Student and Private Pilot Lessons

I'm currently working on the Instrument License, I stopped a while ago, because of glitches in some lessons... They seem to be gone for now

...it is a fact that I have spent the past 10+ years daily perfecting my Sim flying techniques, in various aircraft, (which has aided my real flying in GA Aircraft), without recourse to asking for assistance in the Sim Forums, just by studying the various Flight Manuals for the Aircraft which I fly, and constantly taking refresher courses, to keep -up-to-date...
