Does the number of add on aircraft and scenery effect start up times and overall performance?

The more things you got on your harddrive, the slower it'll run.

Just keep it de-fragged, and you should be fine

Does the number of add on aircraft and scenery effect start up times and overall performance?

I'm running FSX on a Notebook and since I don't want my internal HDDs to be full of add-ons I have most of them on an external HDD. Now when I start FSX without the ext. drive I'm ready to fly about 5mins earlier! :-[
