If you really want the plane to fully land on the strip you need a plane that has auto-land moddeled in FSX (no default one has this) - for a guided way to the runway (about 50 feet above the runway then manually) use the ILS-function (if the airport supports it). This function is included in all bigger planes!

If you're not there to fly the plane, tickets start at 40 Dollars...

And here's my philosophy,

If you don't know how to manually start up a plane. You don't get to know how to use its autopilot yet.

:D

There's no fun in setting the autopilot and watching the plane fly for you.  :P

Anyway, starting the default 737 is a bit tricky since it was designed to be started with Ctrl+E, but there are start levers under the throttles if you hit Shift+4

Also check out http://freechecklists.net/simchecklists.asp if you want to get the checklists for the plane, the default one is pretty basic.

If you want to watch an aircraft fly by itself, youtube has thousands of cockpit videos....
