FSX recognizing RAM

Postby Rich H » Mon Jan 26, 2009 1:01 pm

How do I get fsx to recognize all my ram? I've got 4gb of RAM, however only 50%, making it 2gb is used.

Do you have SP2? If so, FSX should already recognize more than 2 gigs.

What's your OS? (32 or 64 bit?).

If it's 32 bit, you'll need to do something special (check Nick's optimizations topics for more info), to make the OS recognize more than two, and even then, you can only use something like 3,4 or 3,7 gigs.

I have SP2, but don't have 32 bit.

32 bit will only support 4 gig of ram of which only around 3.2 gig is avaliable to the os, 64 bit is virtually unlimited. FSx will use what is avaliable, mine rarely goes above 1.6 gig, it depends on how much scenery etc is around at time. Heavier areas use more ram. Flying over the ocean with no clouds will use even less. That is just normal.

Hi

64bit is not unlimited. Different versions of Vista support different amounts.

See here for a run down of what versions of windows supports what amounts of ram.

Hope this helps :)
