Alcatraz is 17gb?

I am clearing up some old software... Went onto the remove programs section on Control Panel and I see the following:

Aerosoft's - Alcatraz : 17.1GB

Acceleration is on the list, at just 970mb or so. My entire FSX folder is apparently 17.0GB

Urm. Can anyone explain that? If I remove that, am I removing something much more than just Alcatraz or what?

Cheers

It's probably calculating your entire FSX install, if you just uninstall that item you should not lose anything else besides it.

Well, should FSX alone be on the list of installed software? Or has Aerosoft stolen that program and called it by its own name.

I've 'apparently' just got Acceleration and Aerosoft installed. According to the list no FSX is installed - And yes, it is installed  ;D

Sequoia View isn't showing Alcatraz as a massive file... In fact it is so small I can't easily find it at all.

(Sequoia shows everything you've got in your computer as rectangles. Larger rectangles means bigger file. Thousands of files for FSX... All are small apart from some scenery ones. Nothing that is 17GB looking)

I think it has just stolen the FSX folder and renamed itself as Aerosoft.

How can I uninstall it? No uninstaller present on my start menu.

Be Carefull Very carefull, I stepped into this ground once, ... it said my active sky x (fsx Addon) was 24GB, I went to uninstall it, process completed and found that it had deleted nearly all of my fsx Directory including the whole of my simobjects only leaving a few minor things like fonts and modules etc.

This immobililized my flight sim x accel from being (uninstalled or repaired, same goes for all 14 of my payware fsx addons and I could do nothing. The only thing left was to download a freetrial version of a registry cleaner which wipes anything in the installation registery which is corrupt, and therefore places you on a new plate where you can reinstall fsx etc. However, I now have to tread carefully too as I have done this once with this registry cleaner (free trial). If it happens again however I would have to go and buy it or find another one to do the same job, if I cant and I really dont wanna spend out more money then it will lead to a complete vista reinstall. :(

Hope that helps.

Yeh I was a bit suspicious.

How should I go about just removing this Aerosoft stuff?

Control panel should only show Acceleration as having been installed. ;)

Yeah well ive tried to clean out some space and programs and I looked at the free payware C152 that they gave out and it said like 16gb and I was like wow ill clear lots of space on delteing this so I did and dint clear anyspace practically and all I did was jsut lost the plane in FSX.
So its probally what the guy said above about its your whole fsx although we could be wrong.

I am now very wary of using Windows XP's Un-install program in the Control Panel!

A few months ago I used it to Un-install the single program; "Dune" on my Hard Drive...

It seemed to be taking ages..with my hard drive light constantly flashing...

After a long while. I finally got fed up with waiting for it to stop and cancelled the Un-install process...

...only to find out that every single one of the Folders on my Hard Drive were EMPTY....It had cleared everything out!

....they all had their Folder names, but they were all EMPTY...nothing inside!

.....Necessitating a complete Format of my Hard Drive and a total re-installation of all my previous Software, including Windows XP SP2 all over again!

Fortunately I keep all my Payware, etc, Software programs and their Keys, on separate CD's for safety!

It put me out of action for over a week to get everything up and running again...

..it was a bleedin' nightmare!

Unlucky, I think I need to make more back ups.

Might it be worth just leaving it how it is?
