Why didn't you install the service packs ? Absolutely nobody here is using FSX without at least SP1, so it's hard to tell what happens.
However, at first glance, it looks like your computer is overheating. Playing FSX on a laptop is a terrible idea, because the cooling systems of laptops are not efficient enough.

The answer is very simple: Don't push scenery to ultra high.

You won't be able to run anything near that with those specs.

Those are the requirements to run the game. To run the game smoothly, check the recommended system specs.

You NEED  a hell of a lot of muscle in your pc to run FSX like you want. What MS says will run FSX ok is not what will run it sufficiently to enjoy it. You need modern  hardware. Just read a few threads on the forum to see what people have and what they are getting in the way of FPS.

You need to upgrade the hardware. Sorry but it takes a good CPU to get anywhere with FSX

Actually, I run FSX on my laptop and it works great! There is a cheap cooling fan available for laptops also. Maybe I'll find out the hard way, but so far so good! One full year of simming at full throttle and no issues!

Anxyous is correct
With such a low spec laptop you shouldnt even expect to run Vista at all well.....let alone FSX with high graphics

your expectations are too high for your PC's ability

I too have had the same difficulty running FSX on a laptop.  BUT!, with most all settings running in the 30-40% range, I get pretty decent results with not too much better specs than the OP.

I had to experiment when I first got FSX (12/07) with what settings provided the best sim with what I had to work with.....there's only one or two that are above 50% or so.

Fortunately, well actually unfortunately 'cause it's due to an inheritance, I'm graduating to an over-the-top PC this weekend, which will allow a 'maxed out' experience.

Hey it seems that u dont understand anything about laptops . ok maybe my requirements are low to run fsx but you cant say ''With such a low spec laptop you shouldnt even expect to run Vista'' ok first of all Mr INTELLIGENT this laptop is a compaq and it actually came originally with the vista so ofcourse anybody on earth would expect it to run vista! please learn before commenting!

I have a laptop, I use it for FSX as well, but pushing ultra high on your specs is outright suicide.

And no need to jump up and get offensive, that gets you nowhere ;)

Listen/read carefully.
You've already been given the appropriate information..

The published FSX min-specs
are for an extremely basic FSX configuration.

FSX will run perfectly well
at the default settings provided on installation.

It just doesn't display all those bells & whistles
which you personally might wish for.

On a recent Vista "as provided by manufacturer" installation, (HP/Compaq)
Vista utilised 980 MB of RAM as provided.

Your machine only has 1024 MB installled.

i.e.
FSX would therefore
only have 44 MB
of available RAM to work with.

FSX determines your systems capabilities at every runtime.

You however,
by setting your sliders to ultra-high,
have chosen to entirely ignore
your machine's extremely-limited capabilities.

As yet
there isn't a desktop machine,
let alone a laptop,
which is capable of running FSX fully on ultra-high settings
let alone your 1.8GHz 1MB laptop.

Click the 'reset to default' button
to configure your system
to your machine's appropriate native capabilities.

Any specific settings you wish to improve
will have to be matched
by an equivlent downgrade in the other sliders.

Just for info -
I beta-tested FSX throughout the entire beta-programme,
on both
a 2.4G Hz 1GB RAM laptop,
plus a secondary
1.0GHz 256MB RAM destop.
