Vista FSX won't recognize callsigns

FSX including FSX Steam version.

Vista FSX won't recognize callsigns

Postby jieitai » Sat Jan 03, 2009 8:12 pm

As the topic says. The airline callsigns that I set in the aircraft.cfg files won't register in the game. I click on the aircraft details, and only the default callsigns are present.

My FSX running on XP has no problems with this, but the Vista version does. What's up?

Make sure that in the section of the CFG for the specific repaints entry next to the the "atc_airline" it says the official airline call sign.

For American Airlines the call sign is American, For Delta it is Delta, etc...

It does. I even took the working .cfg files from my computer and copy-pasted their entries onto the other computer, and it still didn't work.

Sounds like the Vista system file security issue. Vista 'protects' system files inside the \Programs Files\

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

That's not the problem.

FSX doesn't directly refer to the aircraft.cfg for airline callsigns, unless the airline name was there, when the section was added.

Do the following:

Go to C:/Users/*Your user/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX/SimObjects

Locate the plane in question, and open the state.cfg file in that folder.

If ie. you're trying to add an airline to [fltsim.6] in the aircraft.cfg, find the [fltsim.6] part in the state.cfg.

It should look something like this, and if it doesn't, add what's missing:

[FltSim.6]
atc_id=(the id, like OY-AVT)
atc_id_enable=1(must be set to one, shouldn't be a problem)
atc_airline=(enter a valid airline here, there's a list of the names to put there somewhere)
atc_flight_number=(your flight number)

The parenthesises are just to show what to put there.

The state.cfg files will also be able to tell you, for how long each engine of a given aircraft has been turned on, as a pointer towards your number of flighthours in that specific aircraft.

BTW, I'm not sure if you can leave out the airline in the aircraft.cfg, but put it there as well to be sure :)

Keep in mind, this won't add the airline to the list you can choose from in FSX, but ATC will refer to the airline name you entered.

:)

Why is Vista so screwy with FSX? I knew I wouldn't like Vista....

I also can't locate the FSX.cfg file. There's no Documents and Settings folder to be found.

It's in the same folder I posted, minus the SimObjects folder.

Have you got files and folders hidden? Look at the files and folders option in Tools (on the explorer top menu) or hit F1 in explorer and enter 'hidden folders' in the search box. (This presupposes the tools folder is in the same place as XP - I wiped Vista off a long time ago.)
Best regards

The Documents and Settings folder is not hidden, it's just plain not there.

You're looking for the XP location. They changed it in Vista. Try this;

C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
