FSX AI Traffic

Are there any free mods or model replacements to replace AI traffic with that will result in better performance? It is to my understanding that FSX uses full models for AI traffic resulting in large performance decreases.

I have tried my traffic x but it just installed to much I now use WOAI with about 20 to 30 airlines, all the military traffic installed, and even though they are not fsx models there simple and my framerates are better than using the default or my traffic.
After installing WOAi you have to install the FSX ga as once fs9.BGL's are seen it ignores fsx traffic although the cars will still work you can get the FSX default GA here

The AI traffic from FS9 ( PAI, AIA, WOAI, MAIW ) work in FSX for the
most part. Their traffic BGL files are in FS9 format and will interfer with
the FSX default traffic IF you do not convert them.

There are a couple of FS9 to FSX BGL conversion utilities available
and once you run an FS9 traffic BGL through one of them the FSX default
traffic will be present, if you wish to keep it.

Could you go over with me in a little more detail the process of installing WOAI traffic into FSX?

Most importantly however, is there anyway to back up default FSX traffic in case I botch the WOAI install? That way I don't have to reinstall the sim should something go awry.

Thanks!

Installing WoAI traffic is quite simple. At WoAI, download and install the WoAI Installer. Unzip to a folder of your choice, read the documentation.

Suggestion: to keep your ai aircraft installs from

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

DAVE -

That is an excellent suggestion - (WOAI aircraft folder placement)

I am considering creating a Tips and Tricks style package of various things relating to FSX (similar to what I have done in the past for FS2004) and would like to include your idea.

Would that be OK?

If so, I would like to give you credit but do not know your last name.

Dave,

Certainly include it.....

...but no credit needed or deserved as I picked up the 'tip' from some un-recalled source long ago.

Dave,

Certainly include it.....

...but no credit needed or deserved as I picked up the 'tip' from some un-recalled source long ago.  ;)

Side note: I (and others) also do the same for add-on ac, ...\SimObjects\Addon Aircraft\... with appropriate FSX.cfg entry. Helps keed thing tidy.

Dave

Also, those folders can be loacated anywhere. They do not have to be in the FSX
SimObjects folder or even on the same drive.
This is also true of scenery folders.

I have several "aircraft" folders...Military, Military AI, AI, etc located
on two different drives. I have a "Addon Scenery 2" directory on
a seperate drive from FSX where I place all my large scenery addons.

As long as you supply the full path names in the fsx.XFG/scenery.cfg you
can place them as you wish.

As to AI, be aware that the sound ( soundai in FSX ) is aliased
to default FSX aircraft sound for many of the AI. The alias=
statement in the sound.cfg file will use a 'relative' address, assuming
that the current directory for that AI aircraft is in the
FSX SimObjects folder. If it is not, then you need to supply the full
path to the sound file you are aliased to.

Here is an example from my setup where FSX is on my I: drive and
te AI is on my M: drive:

[fltsim]
alias=I:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\B737_800\soundai

My fsx.CFG setup:

[Main]
User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter
SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes
SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft
SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles
SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats
//SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals
SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Misc
SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Aircraft
SimObjectPaths.6=M:\FSX AI Aircraft
SimObjectPaths.7=M:\FSX Military AI
SimObjectPaths.8=I:\FSX Military Aircraft
SimobjectPaths.9=I:\FSX A6 Aircraft
SimObjectPaths.19=SimObjects\Propliner Aircraft
SimObjectPaths.10=ORBX\FTX_AU\FTXAI_AIRCRAFT

Note that I've disabled "Animals"....
