FSX SP2

I am coming back to FSX after a prolonged flirtation with World of Warcraft. I have a new copy of FSX Gold. Several questions:
1. I remember some problems with Acceleration. Compatibility issues and such. To avoid them I remember that one could not install the expansion and just update FSX with SP2. With the gold addition, has Aces updated straight FSX witht he SP2? In other words, does one have to still install SP2 if one doesn't want to install Accel?
2. I have lost all my addons, both purchased and downloaded. My bad, but I had a partition gremlin. Didnt back up stuff for FSX...Sniff, sniff, cry and nashing teeth...Luckily I had backed up everythin else of importance!
I am intending to download:
Ground Environment X
Ultimate Terrain US X
Ultimate Terrain Europe X
Active Sky Advanced X.
These are the minimum I'm going to obtain.
Advice please on:
AI Traffic AddOn.
Thanks,
The Bad Penny.

You would advise not loading either SP2 or Accel to avoid the problems?

Most of the new planes that are coming out need sp2 so you are better off using it and reading around to solve any issues there are.

Thanks.

Ive never used a mesh addon. Ive seen Nick and others talk of having FSGenesis mesh addons on their systems. Im gonna go with them, I beleive. How do the other addons Im gonna get interact with FSGenesis? See first post for other scenery addons Im gonna get.

DO make sure you install FSX corrrectly... many think they can simply patch over after the initial install without booting the software and this creates more perf issues than one may think
Do make sure you have a modern video driver installed for your video card. Older drivers can present perf and other issues
1. Install RTM, fire up the sim and let it complete the install and g ahead and boot the default flight.
2. Close the sim
If you have the Deluxe version and want the SDK installed, install it off the DVD now.
3. Reboot the computer
4. Install Acceleration which will install SP2 automatically. Boot the sim and allow it to complete the install and boot the default flight.
5. Close the sim
If you want the Acceleration SDK install it from the disk.
6. Reboot the computer
Make sure you have the latest DirectX UPDATE installed.
Make sure you have the C++ library update installed.
You can activate it now at anytime
8. Start the sim, set up the sliders/checkboxes as you had them. Close the sim
9. Install your addons one at a time, reboot in between and make sure you have the updates for them.
DO NOT MIGRATE the FSX.cfg file you have!
Use it to copy/paste edits but do not overwrite the new file.
Acceleration takes care of both SP1/SP2 in one shot
If installing for a non-acceleration SP2 its the same process except install SP1, boot the sim default flight, close and reboot the computer then repeat for SP2

The SDKs?
I installed FSX and FS2004 to a seperate 150 gb VRaptor drive from my OS. Does the SDK "have to" go in the game folder or the default folder called for in the install? Or can I set up a seperate folder to keep all its stuff out of my way on the game drive?
And I plan to run the Doctor Nick's prescription for comp perf improvement at the end of all the installs...Lots of restarts...Lots...LOL

SDKs (if you are planning on development work) go into the OS drive under the path they normally install
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK
they do not need to be on the FSX drive
those restarts are there for a reason.. get cocky and 'slam install' you get what you deserve

Thanks...

OK!
Now that Ive spent damn near all night doing the Little St. Nick Windows Optimize thingie to my windows, installed progs and FSX, I need some more advice:
I have the NOD32 AV recommended by Nick...Wonderful prog! Just sets in the backround and doesn't get up in my face all the time like Windows LiveOne Care.
I have Ad-Aware loaded as well. Should I keep this prog or dump it? It did catch things that LiveOne didn't. Is NOD32 AV & Anti-Spyware gonna do the job without Ad-Aware?
And I lost the link for a particular make and model of RAM Nick recommends for ASUS P-5K series of motherboards. Ive searched for the particular thread but cant find it. Could someone help out a now cross-eyed truck driver?
Thanks...

No clocking on this system or my brain for that matter...I will get into clocking when the system based on the new chips is built around July next year.
Just need some RAM for a straight-up running that is better than my current PNY RAM...
240 Pin DDR2, I beleive it is...
