Taxiing a taildragger

Hey,

I recently donwloaded the Ford Trimotor from SimV. Today I wanted to do a short hop from Casablanca to Sizilia, started parked at the fuel-station and tried taxiing in named plane. The problem was I couldn't make it turn (except for some few degrees) with the rudder, though the backwheel is turned about 45

Tailwheel lock on?

Maybe... Most likely! 'cause I guess it's not correctly displayed with both planes (the tailwheel does moves with the rudder!).

Do you by chance know the default key?

Change the 180 (steering angle)  to something like 45 or 50.

Ok, I'll try that, too!

The realistic method would be to use a combination of differential throttle & wheel brakes. Hold the stick right back when applying power. On the FS9 default Trimotor the tailwheel steering angle is 180 degrees or fully castoring.

You could cheat by making it steerable. Try 60 degrees to start with.

Edit. Ooops! Dave beat me to it. ;)

Just for understanding: what exactly is this modification doing? Reducing the max. angle from 180 to 60? Sounds like the opposite of what I think would solve the prob.!  :-? ;)

180 degrees is fully castoring, like the wheels on a shopping trolley. The lower angle makes it steerable with the rudder.

The default key command for tailwheel lock is Shift + G.

(tailwheel lock)

Though I've yet to find a tailwheel lock in the panel, the default keys to lock/unlock is Shift+G.

Yep, got it working (Shift + g doesn't have any influence for me/the Ford)!

Thanks alot!

Has anyone done much taxiing with the P-51?  I haven't flown all the default planes in FSX but the P-51 definitely seems to most difficult to turn without flipping and oversteering.
