Perf in FSX is not about frames its about smooth and clear visuals
you should not have any problem clocking that a bit without installing a honking heatsink. With i7 a 400MHz bump is like clocking a Q processor up by a 1000 and I dont think you would have to raise the CPU voltage to do that.. perhaps a tad
It also has TURBO mode too which will clock things automatically however you would probably be better served doing it manually
I think between the i7 bumped and bit and the 280 you will probably finally get to a place of peace with your display preference
