NYC OOM Error

Hello,

After flying around metro NYC for 30 to 40 minutes I always get a grey box with black words stating my computer has run out of memory and needs to shut FSX down.  It then suggests that I reset my graphic settings if the problem persists.  I can stop this from happening by setting my traffic settings to zero, right now they are at 18%.  This does not happen anywhere else and I can fly around metro LA for an hour.  I would think that metro LA has just as much traffic as NYC.

I am running XP Media Center (32bit), AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 4200+ @ 2.19 GHz, 4 meg of ram and my userva switch is set to Nick N's recommended setting, GeForce 8800GTS w/ 180.48 drivers.  My bufferpool size is set to 6,000,000.

Addon's are UTX, GEX, FEX, MTX, SceneryTech, FS Genesis, FSWC & MegaSceneryX (So Cal, Phoenix, Dallas, HI).  I also have added numerous freeware airport scenery, etc.

Any ideas why this happens in NYC?  I would think that metro LA and So Cal has just as much traffic and scenery requirements as metro NYC especially since I am running MegaSceneryX in LA.

you are sure the boot.ini line is correct?

/3GB/Userva=2560

What is the page file set to.. static size 3072-3072 or "System Managed"

If static set it to System Managed and try again

If that nets no result, drop the Userva=2560 value by lots of 64 till it stops

Userva=2560
Userva=2496
Userva=2432
Userva=2368

The PCIe video memory must be mapped so larger video memory cards can effect the total address space needed for the OS and force you to drop the Userva amount so the OS has the amount it needs with VM

bufferpools reserves video memory for geometry not system memory. For a 640MB card the max would be between 25-35MB. 6MB really does not help anything and probably makes little or no difference which is why I typically tell people to try up to 10 with a 512 card but if they see no difference, remove the line completely... same with any other card.

Hi Nick,

I am sure that Userva=2560, but I will double check.

Were do I look to see if the page file is set to static size or system managed?

Regarding bufferpools, the GTX8800 has 768 meg of memory, what would you recommend for a setting?

Rod

Your original post says 8800GTS which indicates 640MB of memory, the GTX is 768

the max for 640 is 35000000 (35mb)

the max for 768 is 70000000 (70mb)

however do keep in mind that setting is a BY SYSTEM tweak and setting it to its max does not mean you will get a result. bufferpools is for buffering geometry around the aircraft and it result in use is best seen when making turns in large urban areas or flying over large amounts of trees in a landing at a bush airport, otherwise the setting does nothing

also, reserving those max values depends on the montior you are using.. very high res monitor or mult-monitor can not use the max or you cut into the frame buffer

If you are on a 768 card then its possible you have Userva set too high... before messing with the page file which probably wont do anything for this drop the value by what I posted above... start at the top and work your way down and see if it stops at one of those

Thanks Nick, the GTS was a spelling error, I have the GTX.

I'll modify my Userva # as suggested.

I think I understand about bufferpools now, thanks for the further explanation.  My monitor is a HP LCD 1680*1050 and running at 32 bit color.  I am not at home know and I do know know the model # of the monitor off the top of my head.
