I have downloaded the alphasim EE lightning to try and make it compatable with fsx I have managed to make all the gauges work, all the VC textures show up and all the afterburners working etc. But I have a problem with the strobe lights and nav lights. they show up and flash when you hit the "L" key but you can also see no autogen scenary (trees, houses, clouds) behind the lights. I have noticed that in the texture folders for each variation for the aircraft

I have this same problem, just havn't tried to fix it yet because not every plane does it. You could open the aircraft.cfg of a plane that does not have the problem and use the light fx from that one on the one that has the fault. I don't think it's an alpha issue, I think it's an incompatible effect issue. I guess I could finally get around to trying to fix mine also to see if this works.

I have tried taking out all the lights section in the aircraft cfg and/or replacing them with another light set from another aircraft which works, this has done nothing but add more lights, even when i take out the lights section altogether it still shows box's  :-?

I have managed to fix three planes now doing this. Where did you get that plane, and I'll take a look at it.

I fixed my lights by adding an 'h' to the end of the effect name to make it like the default FSX ones,

Well that sucks. Gotta be a real special deal before I'll buy anything. Have you tried asking them what's up with the lights? I've been on their forums before, and never recieved any answers to any questions I posted there, but it's worth a try. Aside from that, I am thinking the lights are just somehow part of the model. I have a FS2002 model of an F-16XL that has this problem. can't change the lights, can't remove them either. And worst of all, they look like crud.

Danm!, ok, I will see, but I am starting to loose faith in getting a result.

I don't suppose this freeware one I just grabbed from there is in anyway similar to what you've got is it?

It's not, It wouldn't even show up in FSX for me. I grabbed all the alpha EEs from here and they are the same way.  All the lights on the one I grabbed are listed in the [electrical] section instead of their own [Lights] section. :-? Weird stuff. Is yours that way? Probably not.
