After getting a tour by the pilot of a real life King Air 300 that was on the tarmac at KTHV, I wanted one for my standard version of FSX.

Simply extract the zip file to a temporary directory,  and copy the AFG aircraft file into the Simobjects/Airplanes directory.

I believe there is also a tutorial here for installing aircraft into FSX

I've tried that, but the files don't extract into what would be a "normal" area.  Example, simobjects/airplanes/AFGKingAir300.  There's sub directories with different names.

Extract to a temporary folder, then move the files.

I tried unzipping it into a temp directory and the 2D panel blew up.

When F10 is pressed, it's just a black screen with the typical gauges up top, no view of the scenery, no way to see just the typical guages at the bottom.

I just downloaded AFG_B300_v10.zip to check it out. The file is configured in the usual way & should be no problem to install. I tried it in the FSX Demo & have exactly the same problem with the 2D panel. Probably a simple bug as everything else including the VC appears to work as advertised.

I'll investigate the 2D panel when I have more time & report back.

Update as promised. The problem with the 2D panel is caused by the way it's set up, using the panel background BMPs from the FS9 default beech_king_air_350. These are not included in the download. If you have FS9 it's simple enough to paste copies of the BMPs into the Panel folder of the AFG King Air. It also involves a simple edit to Panel.cfg. I suspect it's possible to use the BMPs from the FSX default King Air but I can't try it as I don't have FSX.

One part of me is glad the problem is nrarrowed down.  The other point is disappointed because you don't have FSX and can't make the needed edits to correct the situation.

However, since I'm dealing with a lack of feedback from the author, could you take a look at v101, also available on simvation's site?  That may have the required updates, but I'm still not sure if it will work because I am on the other side...I no longer have FS9 or FS2004 on my hard drive.  Perhaps someone with both can shed some light on the problem.

I suspect the reason for the lack of interest by the original authors is that this aircraft is intended for FS9. There is no mention of FSX in the documentation. I checked out AFGB300_V101.zip. It contains a modified Aircraft.cfg & AIR file + a new texture. This will not affect the panel.  I can send you an updated panel if you wish. Watch your PMs.

Hi,ND.

I downloaded both folders and opened them in a temp folder. I created a new folder and called it AFG_B300.

After opening the  v10 folder I copied the:

model

model.nocabin

panel

sound

texture.diber

texture.lxsea

into the AFG_B300 folder.

I then opened the V101 folder and copied the texture, .cfg and .air files from there to the AFG_B300 folder.

From there I copied the AFG_B300 folder to SimObjects/Airplanes.

Started FSX and selected the B300 that showed at the very bottom of the aircraft page. Have not installed the Effects yet.

Went flying and everything looked good,in fact I'm leaving it in there so I can enjoy it too!

Hope this works for you :)

Ah but did you try the 2D panel? That's what's causing the problem.

.....actually it just crashed on me and won't open the 2D panel at all,just opens in forward view. It won't read the AP/HDG/NAV etc either.

I reinstalled it and didn't even get a good start. I'm off to uninstall the fx files(put them in)

You need to paste copies of the missing FS9 default King Air panel BMPs into the Panel folder. These are panel_background_1024.bmp & radio_stack_bg.bmp. Then edit the path to them in Panel.cfg like this:

[Window00]
file_1024=Panel_Background_1024.bmp
size_mm=640
position=7
visible=1
ident=MAIN_PANEL

[Window01]
file=Radio_Stack_bg.bmp
size_mm=196,349
position=8
visible=0
ident=RADIO_STACK_PANEL

You might also need a couple of FS9 default gauges. I don't think they're included in FSX.

Went to alt and opened the panel there. The panel came up with the gauges at the top. I can drag them down to give a cockpit view but the Flap window lies over the AP window and if you close any window you lose the whole lot(back to using alt).

Everything works but it is also on a black background and is not conforming to a background panel shape.

Don't you just love updated weather!! Here I am mucking around with this B300 panel sitting on the active at YPPH in FSX. In real life I'm about 8Kms away and surrounded by dirty weather right now. I've been watching the clouds come over and turning off the PC when the thunder and lightning gets close.

So back in FSX the rain is falling-suddenly a flash of lightning outside the cockpit ;D and in real life? A clap of thunder over my house at the same time;D.

Can't get more real than that!!!

Anyway the B300 panel.

If you load the aircraft it will open in VC and only give you limited access to the panel. When you open the 2D panel all the gauges are at the top of the screen. You can drag these down with your mouse and position them so the switches etc are useable along the bottom of the screen. You will get a basic rectangular panel showing all gauges etc with the flap window over the AP section.

Initially I had a panel silhouette in the background but that went when it crashed the first time and does not appear now.

All functions are working. However if I open a window and then choose 'Close Window' via the mouse everything closes and I have to use 'Alt' to access the cockpit view again. I clicked back on the function to close it.

It ain't pretty but it works. The only other thing is that it randomly changes position up or down the screen when I change views.

Hagars' .cfg lines are in there already.

Pity. I had a good start there but it has crashed twice now. Bye,Bye, B300.
