Clean install problems

After reading about needing a virgin install for service pack 2 I decided to uninstall and re install my FSX on my Vista Basic computer. After uninstalling it then re booting I tried to re install the program and it won't re install?

Instead of getting the fresh install page I get the Repair/uninstall menu. Regardless of which option I pick I get an error code then the install program quits. There was really nothing wrong with it to begin with to be honest, I was just bored and thought maybe it might run a little better if I did this since I did several mods before installing service pack 2. Guess I should have left well enough alone >:(.

This is what I get when I try to install it.

"Error 1722. There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

Then when I click ok on that one I get this one.

"Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation.

Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information."

I'm at a loss here, is there something else I should have deleted that the program didn't and I missed or did I delete too much somehow? I deleted all the files I could find associated with this program, that I could find. After I did the uninstall half the files were still on my computer. There has to still be something there if I am getting the Repair/uninstall menu when I put in the disk.

Help please.

Paul

Worked like a charm, I'm installing it right now.

Thanks a ton Nick. Now I get to spend the day adding aircraft. Thanks to you guys I spend more time messing with FSX than I do actually playing it. ;D  I did the same with Vice City though.
