well after being overly joyed that FSX finnaly came, I've been having some problems with it.

1) during the install, no folder was created in my start menu and no shortcut was placed on my desktop.

2) i've been wanting to up the performance, so i went digging for my FSX.cfg. and its NOWHERE to be found, even when i enable "show hidden files and folders"

any suggestions?

1.) An option at the end of the install usally asks if you want to make an icon

2.) The directory for Vista is C:/Users/*your user*/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX.

Not sure about XP.

FSX does not give the option of a desktop shortcut, nor is one created automatically under any circumstances.  It was not devised to do so, I recall Phil taylor once agreeing to this.  This does not stop the user from manually right clicking the .exe and dragging to the desktop, then agreeing to a shortcut.
