still can't fly the A321

Hi all. I posted this prob a long while back, but never did get it sorted. In the A321, if I have autopilot set only for altitude, I still cannot turn. If I turn on the ap heading, of course it will turn, but that's not me flying it, is it? I have tried all the tricks I know--ctrl v, and turning the ap heading switch on and off, but still no luck. This is kinda driving me bonkers! Any ideas? It is the pure default one, no additions of any sort. I have dl'd an A380 from here and that one works fine, if that helps. Thanks  Rick

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the auto pilot of the A321, sometimes I can't even tell if a certain button is activated or not because the shade changes between inactive and active is so minor.

That's really my only gripe about the A321 and I actually do prefer it's design slightly to that of the 737-800 which I am currently flying.

Well there might be a problem that isnt installed or something. To reinstall it for that switch would be stupid for all that time. You might just have to find a diffrent a321 panel or something.

Maybe in the AIRCRAFT.CFG

ok guys, thanks for the input. Ah well, there's always the A330 or 380 or whatever I got loaded up.  Kinda curious tho if other people have this problem, or is it just something goofy on my end?

I have a suggestion. After turning on the autopilot, flick the Heading switch on then off. After that you should be able to turn.

8-)

The reason why you cannot turn is that by default FS turns on the "Wing Leveler" for any autopilot when you have any of the controller modes active.

Either turn off the "Wing Leveler" with the keyboard (Ctrl-V) or click the HDG mode button twice as already suggested.

BTW, this is actually correct operation for most dual-axis autopilots. IRL however the pilot usually has a button on the yoke/joystick for TCS (Touch Control Steering) or the manufacturer's equivalent, whereby the AP's active modes are suspended temporarily for manual control inputs.

Hi. Believe me, I have played with the wing leveler as well as the ap heading switch, nearly to the point of wearing them out, I'm sure.  ;D  Thanks for the input tho.  Rick

Yep, one of the main reasons that I do not fly the A321 is the autopilot, I hate the combined set and push to activate switches.
