Everything looks jagged/blocky

Had a new PC show up (quad core, ATI 4870, Vista 32 bit, 4 gig of ram) so everything should look sweet. I've seen some screenshots and the game looks incredible.
But mine seems kinda blocky - like the textures aren't smooth. I've ramped everything up to max and I still get the same thing. Even in the beginning window when selecting your aircraft I the plane looks really jaggy which I thought was strange as anti-aliasing is on?
Is this normal or do I need to adjust something. All latest drivers are installed.

Enable Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering in the games graphics settings.

...as anti-aliasing is on
Have you checked the settings in the Controll Center of your ATI (though I run my card with lowest settings and have no probs with FSX)? :-/

Yep this is done - but it still looks jaggy. Like some of the control in my cockpit look really bad (not all, just some buttons)

You should check NickN's guides for how to make Vista 32 recognize the full 4GB of RAM you got.
Enabling AA in the game takes up a lot of resources, so it's not recommended.
I don't know the settings and control panels for ATI cards though, so I can't help you there.
Set trilinear filtering in the game, and set the anisotropic filtering settings on your graphic card as high as possible.

On occasion I've noticed that AA is disabled in FSX even if it's enabled in the in-game settings. Usually a restart of FSX fixes the problem.
I can't stand the jaggies so AA is a must for me.

This is really weird - I had to do a reinstall.
Installed the game then put on FSX SP1. Everything looked as smooth as! When I installed SP2 and put DX10 it looked really jaggy/blocky again!
Is this a DX10 issue?
I would leave it off but when I do that the game struggles and is always 'loading' when i play. Basically it wont run smooth! So weird.

UPDATE:
It's not SP2 at all - its the moment I unclick the DX10 preview and restart it looks smooth again. So weird.
Not sure what to do about this. Maybe its my graphics card? I've got a ATI HD4870 with the latest drivers.

Is your card DX10 compatible?

I've had that issue too when running in DX10 mode.
I think it is a common issue with DX10 and FSX. For some reason I dont' think it allows AA when DX10 preview is checked.

here's what i don't get. the 4870 has the DX10.1 engine. and in DX10.1 4xAA is mandatory. are you using Vista SP1? i think that update helped with DX10.1 some

I'm downloading it as we speak!
I thought windows update would have installed this already but maybe not.

I would laugh so hard if that actually worked because it was just a off the wall guess.
I've only used vista a few times but once i couldn't get the AA to work in DX10 (yes i tried nHancer) and the frames were horrid i went back to xp.

AA is only available in DX10 mode with the AA box checked in FSX settings... it sets a DX flag which should enable AA on hardware but it does not perform all the AA jobs the card AA does in DX9 mode... in example is skips triangle AA smoothing as I recall
and that is the same for AA checked in DX9 mode.. which is why I dont use AA checked in the sim... I use DX9 mode and the card with Nhancer and forget DX10
