Texture Won't Load

Hi sorry if there is a thread that has the solution to this already. When I install custom planes that I download off this site (or any site for that matter) and load them up in game the model loads fine but the textures don't.

This doesn't happen on the normal planes included in FSX and the error happens on both FSX downloaded planes and FS9 downloaded planes.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Odd.  You are installing the entire extracted aircraft folder in the simobject airplane directory, correct? Four folders and the "aircraft.cfg and "Aircraftname.air" files?

You should have "Aircraft" folder, and in that folder,  at least four other folders:  model, panel, sound and at least one texture folder, then the two files mentioned above.  They all go in the simobject Airplane directory.

Yea I have installed the entire folder in the simobject airplane directory. This is what the folder looks like when i have it installed.

The strange thing is I got an F16 and it worked, well the outside texture worked but the inside didn't. This is a picture of its directory incase you can see anything that is different in the two.

Thanks again for your help so far.

I suspect this is a graphics problem, either with your video card or FSX display settings. It would help to know your system specs. Also which version of FSX you have - RTM, SP1, SP2, Acceleration etc.

Hey, I am using FSX SP2. My system specs are :
AMD Phenom 9500
Gigabyte 790FX Motherboard
2 Gb of RAM
ATI 3850.

My display settings are set to high and on dirext x 10 at 1024x768. I'm getting acceleration today so I'll see if that helps a bit later.

Thanks

Sorry for the double post but Acceleration didn't fix the problem either.

I didn't expect it would. As I understand it any graphics improvements are included with SP2 which you already have.

You could try disabling DX10.

I remember someone (maybe Mic? At least someone very common here) posting a pic to the screenshot comp. once (in the last year - title was nuclear blast; maybe November's "Acceleration") with exactly the same problem... Maybe someone else remembers who the member was? I think he solved this problem!

Thank you all for your help. Disabling Dx10 worked. Now just to work out why it isn't working but Dx9 will be ok for now  :) .

Thanks again!

because the installed planes are not dx10? ;)

Aircraft models must be specifically designed and compiled as true FSX models using the FSX SDK in order for them to work properly using the DX10 Preview model.

Also, understand one thing clearly: the DX10 Preview mode is just that - a sampler of things to come. It is not complete and indeed has some 'bugs' still.

Even so, when it does work, the results are outstanding!  ;D

Ah right thanks everyone, didn't think that it would be that simple of a problem and it never occured that the planes would have to be compiled a different way for DX10.
