Hello everyone,
I just checked that excellent post at:
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 1197380641
about the clean FSX SP2 install and I would like to know what are the real advantages or disadvantages of having FSX installed in it's own dedicated partition and the system installed in another.
Many thanks,
Alexander

I have FSX on differnt drive and partition to os and scenery on another partion but would prefer another drive. Advantages is that unless you add another addon it tends to stay reasonably defragged in its own partion, also having it on another drive gives it faster access as windows can write to swap file while reading from the other. Oh also makes it easier to back up as if you need to reinstall widows you wont have to delete fsx. You wull have to retore the path and some addons but otherwise it will still work.

Many thanks,
From what I'm finding on many forums what you're saying is pretty much what the people are thinking in general, some are very critic about having FSX in other partition some aren't.
Many thanks for your thaughts.

NO PARTITIONS

Another hard drive

Partitions are perfromance reducers

Use 2 hard drives, one dedicated to FSX and one dedicated to the OS.

If you partition anything pattition the OS drive for storage and make sure the OS is on the first partition of that drive

The advantage is housekeeping and the fact that the FSX drive has more free space.. more free space, better performance and defrags take much less time

NickN,
Great, do you mean also that having just 1 partition for all (OS, FSX, etc) is still better than having FSX in a dedicated partition also? I understand that 2 HD is better but I have 1 500 gb SATA2 hd and I'm considering the 2 options:

1. Just move my entire partition (OS, FSX, etc.) from my former 250 gb hd to the 500 gb new one.

2. Create 2 partitions: 1 for OS, etc and 2 just for FSX, that you are not recommending and I believe that you may be right.

Many thanks,
Alexander

What did I post?

No partitions

you are better off on one partiton for everything than splitting it into 2 and installing FSX on another partition. Best performance is 2 drives

2nd drive yes, second partition, no

Would It better to leave fsx on the faster of the 2 drives I have a 2nd drive for storage but its on regualar IDE and the primary is SATA.

FSX on the faster drive if you want it to run a bit faster.

I would leave the system on one drive, install FSX on the second drive.

Ok great just one partition for all, that's my case then...
