Cobra in FSX

Hey, I just saw a documentation yersterday (Firepower on DMAX) where soviet jets were compared to their european and US pendants. Among others they showed a Mig-29 Fulcrum performing a maneuver called '(Pugachev's) cobra' where the pilot overdraws the plane to sudden stall and holds it for about one second only by thrust to curl it over the nose back to horizontal flight.

Now my question: would it be possible to perfom this maneuver in FSX? I tried it with several planes (though I don't think I tried on from wiki's list) and couldn't perform it... Has someone maybe tried a fulcrum (if there is any for FSX) or any other yet that is suitable for this?

Thx Meck

FSX's flight model isn't suited for a cobra.

Some planes will perform a Cobra, but existing the manoeuver will be very difficult. Yes, FSX, anf FS9, can execute some kind of Cobra, but the behavior of the plane during the stall phase may be problematic, depending on the plane.

And it was not a Mig-29 that you saw, but most likely a Su-27, plane on which Pugachev first realized this figure.

That is something they should add for FS 11 they give us a stunt plane, but no clear abilty to do stunts

Flanker, Fulcrum - maybe I was wrong... So theoretically it would work?! Is there an explicit aircraft you know that is able to do so? I tried the Tornado and some F-18 and F-14 but they don't work (well they aren't able in RL...)

That's true - trying to perform a hammerhead for ages but haven't managed yet...  :-/

Su-27 Flanker was the plane it was first performed in, but the MiG-29 OVT and a number of other aircraft are capable as well.

FSX planes performing said manuvers: ;) after a few seconds, the
su-27 appears as though it's flying backwards, really cool to watch from tower view! 8-)

Wow, looks great! Is this Flanker av. on SimV?

edit: I think I got it (at least it says it's cobra-compatible

Absolutely fantastic!!! Nice toy! Everybody should try try this - pure fun!

If now someone could tell me how to add some smoke instead of the silly weapon effect (maybe the default Extra smoke) to the plane I'd be satisfied!  8-)

Yeah, that's what I'm looking for (didn't miss the sonic boom but looks good, so why not)! But I'm talking about the Su-27...  :-/

Ok, that worked so far - thanks alot!! I added the lines for red and white smoke from the wingtips

[smokesystem]
//smoke.0=0.00,  3.94,  0.85, fx_AB_20MM_cannonfire.fx
//smoke.1=0.00,  3.94,  0.85, fx_AB_20MM_cannonfire.fx
//smoke.2=0.00,  3.95,  0.00, afx_FireBall1000ft.fx
smoke.0=0.00, -27.00, 0.0, fx_smoke_w
smoke.1=0.00, 27.00, 0.0, fx_smoke_r

is it in a similar way possible to add e.g. afterburnerflames that coorespond to 'full throttle' (if I would find an accurate effect for it)?
