Sound file too big! (Mitsubishi F2A)

The sound folder for the Mitsubishi F2A is a whopping 57mb. Enough to freeze FSX for 2 minutes (I actually timed it) when I switch to an external view. It works fine when I play without sound, but it's a shame not to hear the beautiful sound of that jet engine.

So, what can I do (if anything) to lower the sound folder so it won't freeze my game?

I don't like giving my CPU specs, because my processor is so slow people automatically go "that's your problem", when it's not. It can handle FSX just fine as long as my scenery is Normal or lower.

Creative SB Live! Series (WDM) is what's listed in my system. It hasn't been updated since 2001. I hope they have updates for it *crosses fingers*

Sound can be just as CPU intensive as graphics, from my understanding(could be wrong) The CPU handles EVERYTHING before dishing it out to the various subsystems(GPU.sound card, etc.) so while you may be pushing FSX ok, your systems choke point might come for you at the sound b/c of the older sound card not being able to keep up with the large amount of sound data. Now, .wav file aare inherently large, so if there is a way FSX could use

I updated the sound card drivers and the freezing issue went away completely.

However, when I change views, the sound vanishes, and I have to hit Q twice to get it to come back on.

No biggie, compared to freezing my system for 2 minutes  ;)

I'm disappointed by the lack of sonic boom though. All those sound files, and no sonic boom. Tisk.

I'm pretty sure half those sound files aren't even used. I've listened to half of them, and never actually heard them in the game.

SocialGarbage,

I was curious so I was looking through all of my FSX settings and I can not see any setting for sound quality, where is it?  I see the panel where I can change the volumes for all the sounds, etc., but I do not see any mention of"quality".

Regards,

Rod
