FSX add-on instructions?

Postby Greg903 » Fri Aug 15, 2008 3:11 pm

Hello,

I am having some problems, I am trying to add on planes to my game. I tried to add in a Coast guard heli but it doesn't show up? Can someone please tell me or give really good directions on how to add new planes into the game? I have one that is a demo but it came with a install program for me.  I am still having problems with my mic also? I am wondering about a usb mic anybody use one of those? :-/

Most aircraft installations are straightforward. Is there a readme file with the addon?

Tell us which particular addon package you're having problems with

With most add on planes you simpy extract the foder to your /fsx/simobject/airplanes folder. You may have to extract gauges to the fsx/gauges folder as well. Then when you startFSX it should show up, but if it doesnt have a thumbanil in its foder you wont see a picture of it just the name. There is a utility for creating thumbnails for aircraft on avsim. As for USB headsets, they simply plug in and show up as a seperate sound device. If you want to use the mike go to control panel/sound devices and set your voice and sound  recording device as your headeset mike. Also sometimes windows screws up and will also set you headset as the default playback device instead of your speakers so you may need to reset that too. Once it is set up in FSX you go into audio setting and then can set voice playback as your headset so that ATC will come throught the headset instead of the speakers.

I guess that would be your preference. For me, I send the extracted zip file to a new folder I have created on my desktop. This way I can see what is all there, arrange things if needed, then start putting them in the correct main fsx folders (i.e. simobject/airplane, effects, etc...)
My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.
