You would be suprised what today's laptops can run. However, your machine may not have the horsepower to run FSX with much of the eye-candy on. Unless I am badly mistaken, you should be able to get reasonably smooth flight out of your machine, providing you find the settings "sweet spot".
I run FSX on my Toshiba often when on long-hauls and enjoy it very much. The trick with FSX is the CPU. Our machines have a similar CPU and both have 3g RAM, which is good.
My advice is to put the sim on your machine and try experimenting with settings. Pin back the sliders on the eye-candy and start bumping up til your machine chokes for smoothness.
Hope this helps...I am definently not one of the gurus around here. My advice is more on the practical side rather than the technical.
