Well I have just purchased FSX. Now what do I do?

I have read all the FAQs and about to do Nick's tweeks with FSWC addon and all the little stuff. Will download FP1 and SP2 later tonight.

What important stuff do i need. Any links that have died in time? Any tips you want to hand down?

Here are a few tips:
FSX is BIG == 14 Gb just installed. It's a HUGE number of files.
The very first advise would be to install it on a separate hard disk, or at least a separate partition. Defragmenting the disk where FSX is installed is very important for the loading speed and the general performance, so installing FSX on a dedicated harddrive or partition will ease and speed up the defragmentation.

Then, just follow the installation steps: FSX, then SP1, then SP2, and then only you begin to apply the tweaks. You've spotted the topic with the explanations from NickN already, so you know what to do/test. :)

Oh, and the last but most important step: once your FSX is installed and you have read the tweak topics, if there's something you do not understand, ask us ! :)

I don't have a dedicated partition so that is the only downside. I'll download all the Patches and addons then i'll defrag.

Don't partition.

Optimally put on a seperate disk that does not have windows on it.

You could install all the patches. But then you'd waste your time. Only download and install SP2 as it's standalone.

Follow the stickies.

If you are a beginner you have to be patient at the beginning where everything will seem hard to learn, above all when you will deal with some ATC ILS approach bugs but as soon as you will have mastered them out FSX will be really a good friend to spend several hours with..  :)
