"Failed to load textures"  back again

Odd, I had this problem previously with my Cheyenne and it went away after I uninstalled and reinstalled the airplane.  But now I'm getting the same problem with my Dakota and uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't make any difference. I get the following -  "Failed to load texture : VC4T_BUMP_PSD.DDS"  error message and since I've had it with 2 different aircraft sources I don't believe that it's related to the particular airplane.

What I've done:

Uninstall and reinstall 3 or 4 times ...
Reinstall vcredist_x86    (I know, grasping at straws here)
Tried ALL the other Dakotas .... same thing
Installed the latest Nvidia driver ...   75.19  (after a drive sweep)
Remove the mild oc I had  (was 2.7, now back to 2.4 Ghz)
Check for disk errors
Copy the file DF236_VC4_T.DDS up one directory (my thinking was ... well, maybe it needs some help finding the file ... (I think this is the file)
O&O defrag .... I know ... but why not?

It seems something has flipped since it DID work correctly about a week ago ...  and I haven't done anything drastic since then.

If anyone can shed some light on this for me ..... Nick?  (When you are not swamped with all our pleas for help of course)   ;D ;D

If you are not seeing this issue on any other plane than the Dakota and not seeing it with the default aircraft, then it has something to do with the design on the plane(s) and/or your system

plain and simple

Are these aircraft made by the same person/company?

If so then that is where I would look for answers

Nick,
The airplanes are from 2 different companies so it's beginning to look like something in my system. It's a new build just a few months old that I built just for FSX and it has no other programs on it except for a few diagnostics programs.  I guess my plan of attack will be to swap out the video card first ..... and then maybe take out 2 MB of memory at a time to see if that makes a difference.  Part of life if you own a computer I guess.  :D

 Thanks for the comeback.

Solution Found .... my fault ...... lesson learned !!

Previously I had a problem with black textures in ONE of my airplanes and Nick graciously gave me a line of instruction to insert in fsx.cfg that would reveal if textures were not being loaded. They were not and I un-installed and re-installed the airplane. Problem solved! Thinking it might happen again I left the instruction in ...   ::) :-/  Move forward to a week later and I switched to a different payware airplane (different software company too).  A texture error message appears when I load AND when I switch views. I un-installed and re-installed so many times I got warnings  :o  checked and swapped hardware, checked all my software .... nothing. Finally it dawned on me .... maybe, just maybe the missing texture/file is something built in for a future upgrade, an enhancement, a new model ??  So .... uh, um ..... take out the instruction that I had previously put in.  Ala ..... no error messages and the plane flies normally. I don't know it that's the FINAL answer .... but it's something that was not there in the beginning ... and it works.  So the synopsis ... I learned a few things in all my tests and research ... and maybe to document the steps that I take a little more carefully.   ;D ;D

Thanks Nick,
I appreciate your reply. It all helps me to understand the process more and how it all fits together. I didn't see how to contact the software co. from visiting their website but they do provide a forum so I'll see if I can get a response.

Thanks again .....  I'm back in the air ...    ;D ;D
