I have been using fsx for a while now and i have gently been increasing the power of my computer in order to keep up with it, I have a little cash to spend on it now and would like to upgrade it again but which componment is letting the rest down and needs to be replaced first (And dont be afraid to say the most expensive)

.... here is my current computer specs...
(I WANT A NON BIASED ANSWER AND WITH COST OUT OF THE QUESTION)

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

with the majority of the major settings at just over 3/4's up the scale I am getting 15frames at best In london daytime with grey and rainy, also with no aircraft traffic but all other traffic on half

And no I have no problems with OCZ ram on my board other than only being able to install 3gb at most   (due to vista I think)

Go for as much CPU as you can afford.  FSX doesn't take advantage of SLI so don't waste your money.  FSX is CPU bound, the faster CPU you get, the better it will perform.  The experts around here all say it needs to be at least 3.0 ghz to really see great results.  I've got a Q6600 @2.4ghz and I can fly at about 75% maxed and get reasonable results.  Damn shame I bout a quad core and FSX only uses core 0 !

I agree...  You aren't going to get your money's worth out of any upgrade here. It's a pretty solid gaming computer as it sits..

I'd save the money toward the next computer.

My rig is similar to yours with the exception that I o/c my 6600 to 3.65 and only have 2G ram. IMHO, I would upgrade by going back to XP - but that's personal preference. Agree that your PS is a little on the lean side.

I'd say, o/c what you have including the video card. I have read that o/c the memory really has little effect on FSX.

Lastly, I'd search around for any of the system setup posts by NickN and set up your system first.

Go to tomshardware, they've done a bit of testing on Nellie already.

Also, the 4870X2 will be coming out later this month and I think it'll be a great Graphics card, I already got a new PSU (600 watts) and am waiting for the first ones to hit newegg.

Yes.

I seem to remember Nick posting some SuperPI 1M runs of 2.66ghz Nehalem... did it in 9.0s. Words record was about 9 seconds on a Core 2 quad overclocked to over 5 ghz. A stock Core 2 quad at 2.4ghz would do it at 18 seconds.... Now we only get to get Nehalem to 5ghz.  :o
