FSX add-ons --> help

PostPosted: Thu Jul 10, 2008 3:23 pm

Hi all,

I've tried several times to add an add-on into my FSX, according to the manual on this website, but when I start the game, the new airplanes aren't there. I've got SP1 installed, followed by SP2, and it still doesn't work. Even not when I only want to see an existing plane, just with new textures.

Could someone please be so kind to help me, because I'm really stuck here. Please explain me in more detail what to do.

Many thanks!

Are the aircraft you are trying to install for FSX for FS9?

FS9 airplanes may not work in FSX and many require changes to be seen in the selection window. Also. FS9 aircraft go into a different direcory than FSX.

FS9 aircraft go into

Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft

where in FSX they go into

Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes

Is there any difference between FS9 and FS2004?

the aircraft I try to install are FSX ...

Can you give us an example. Tell me the exact page it's posted on so I can download it & check it out for you. A lot of "FSX aircraft" are actually FS9 models updated to work in FSX. They might not be fully compatible with SP2. However, providing they're correctly installed this should not prevent them from being listed on the FSX selection menu.

it's for example on page 36 for the following airplane: FSX USA Airlines Textures Package for CRJ-700.

I tried to copy this folder into the CRJ-700 folder from the game itself, but when I start up my game the new textures aren't there.

However, yesterday I also tried to install FSX-SP2 Cessna Citation 500 Package. on page 35 and this did actually work! So, does there have to be FSX-SP2 explicitly in the title?

Or how do I install all the other aircraft then? Or is this just not possible?

I used to have FS9, but I installed FSX about half a year ago. Maybe I have to remove SP2 again, or what do you suggest?

I really appreciate your help. Many thanks!

Did you open up the aircraft.cfg file and correctly add the new entries for the texture pack? If not, there's no way for FSX to know the new texture pack is there.

If you look in the readme file for the download, it may even already have the new entry ready for you to copy

Basically, open the aircraft.cfg file and copy this, or a previous aircraft entry, and change the bold X's to reflect the new changes.

OK, now I've done exactly as you explained, including the adaptation of the aircraft.cfg file.

However, I don't manage to save this adapted cfg file. My computer tells me that he cannot make that cfg file. Has this got anything to do with the extension or is it a setting that I need to change or something?

I feel I'm really getting close ;-)

If you are using Vista, one way to edit your .cfg is to copy it, then paste it to the desktop.  It'd would be a good idea at this time to rename the aircraft.cfg something like "Originalac.cfg" (whatever yu want to call it)   Then make your edits to the copy on the desktop, then close and save it, copy it, then paste it back into the folder.

Start sim and check to see if your edit worked.

If everything works, just delet the desktop aircraft.cfg.
