Disappointed with Kitty Hawk scenery

Postby Orion66 » Fri Jun 27, 2008 10:34 am

Yes, the first flight airstrip is there.  The four distance markers are there.  The two reproduced shacks are there.  Funny, they even have a small lecturn with the shack's description there.
But they don't have the mound just south of the markers, where from, the brothers flew their first glider tests.  The monument on the mound isn't there either.
Being such a historic location for aviation, I wanted much more detail here.

The monument is there, to the south. It's 'hidden' amongst the autogen buildings.

Don't know it the monument is misplaced or if the land class is in error.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Ah, saw it.  Still, somewhat of a disappointment.
Thanks.
