hey all, im new to the forum. been playing FSX for bout a month now.

i just downloaded the mitsubishi F-2 fighter addon today and i ahve no clue on how to install it.

There is no "Aircrafts" folder in my FSX folder. im using a cracked SP1 version of the game.

Any/all help will be appreciated fully.

i still have a lot of queries on how to make jet landings with ILS and etc etc. (i just flew the Monsoon mission where you have to fly into Singapore's Changi airport and the autopilot app mode did it wonderfully for me. and the ATC guided me in on what heading/altitude to fly at what time. i wanna know how you can do this in free flight mode too. do you guys understand what im trying to say?)

haha pardon my noobness.

cheers and once again thank you

Ok:

You should get a zipped folder when downloading the plane.

Unzip the files to a temporary folder.

The open Explorer, and find something that looks like this:

C:/Programs/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X/SimObjects/Airplanes

Place the folder with all the aircraft files in the Airplanes folder. There should be a Readme file with additional info, like if there's gauges and stuff.

For ILS landings, you can do the exact same thing, but it requires you to manually tune the ILS frequency into the Nav radio, setting up the course (actual runway heading in the case of ILS) and intercepting the beacon.

If you're still a bit of a rookie pilot (I wouldn't know) I suggest not doing exactly that ATM.

I can recommend the Lessons in the Learning Center, you can really get a lot from that :)

I hope it helps :)

I hope it helps :)

i could find the aircrafts folder, so it was in Simobjects.

thank you so very much Anxyous, your a life saver.

and how do i find out the frequency of the airport im landing at so that i can tune my ILS. and this has to be tuned in NAV1 or?

cheers

PS: i am a rookie with jet airplanes and twin turboprops.

im familiar with flying a cessna 172 and such planes :)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=faJTqjRbkxg

Here's a youtube video on how to ILS (it will show you how to get the frequency, course, and how to tune into the NAV1)
WATCH THE WHOLE VIDEO

Thats how I learned about ILS.. Im more of a visual learner than a reader.

Have fun flying!

To find ILS frequencies:

Press 'M' (default) to bring up the map during a flight.

Find your destination.

You can click the airport, and you'll get all information about tower, ground and ILS frequencies etc. along with runway info.

You'll also see a sort of long, bright green arrow, leading to every runway with ILS. That's the glideslope.

In the runway info, there'll also be a runway heading.

Each runway is named after the closest heading the runway is aligned to. Ie. runway 10 is between heading 95 and 104. Sounds understandable? You then got 10L, 10C and 10R, which is when there are more than one runway 10. That's runway 10Left and 10Right if you got 2, and a 10C if you got three.

Let's say you're landing on runway 10, and the heading in the runway info is 098.

Tune the ILS frequency into the Nav1 or Nav2 radios, and make sure you got the correct instruments set to the Nav radio you decide to use.

Then set your course (in a Cessna ie. you got an instrument called the HSI. With a knob on the right you can manipulate your heading for autopilot uses and stuff, and the one on the left is used for the course. Set the course to 098, and you'll see the yellow arrow in the HSI turn to that heading).

The yellow arrow, as you'll see, is broken. The center piece deviates from left to right, depending on your position. To line up with the runway, you need to center that center-piece. Which is easy, if the piece if on the left of the rest of the arrow, turn left towards the piece, until it centers (you'll need to correct when centered, which is really just turning to the course you've entered). If it's on the right, you turn right towards it.

On each side of the HSI, you'll see a small triangle. These will move up and down, and indicate the glide slope. If the triangles are above the centerlines, you're below the glideslope, and you'll need to even out the plane a bit, until they're centered. If they're below the centerlines, you're above the glide slope, and you need to increase your descent rate a bit, until you're on the glideslope again.

If you got the arrow and the triangles centered, make corrections to heading and descent rate to keep them there.

Before you know it, you'll be right above the runway, at what's called the 'decision height'.

This is a low altitude above the ground, where pilots must decide if there's enough visibility to land, or if they'll have to divert to another airport.

You know what to do from there :)

That was quite a mouthful, did any of it make sense? ;D

I lost you for a while there. why would the map show a heading of 098 if the actual runway heading is 10. and the rest of the info was well comprehended. thank you for taking the time to explain it to me witch such clarity.

i find ILS so dascinating coz during the monsoon approach mission, i jsut turned my APP mode on the FD switch. and before i knew it the 747 was on the tarmac so wonderful lol.

and thanx for the youtube link tcco94, will check it out once im back home.

cheers everyone. thanks again for being so helpul to the noobie

10 would be the name of the runway. If the name is 10, the actual heading of the runway is between 095 and 104.

If it's 09, it's between 085 and 094.

oh wow really?

k thats something new.

Anyway, i filed an IFR approach from Sinagpores Tengash Air force base to Singapore Changi airport. and using info from the video and your -advice, i managed to make a picture perfect ILS landing in a 737-800.

its so fascinating. haha.

so do most real life pilots use ILS approaches all the time? or dot ehy fly manually? (im speaking in good weather with good visibility)

oh and one last thing, the flight above i selected IFR. what will happen if i choose VFR when planning the flight?

Thats how I felt on my first ILS  ;)

Im pretty sure they all do but it depends becuase not every runway is ILS some airports dont even have an ILS on any runway like Princess Juliana Intl.

Try the caribeen misson.   :D

Always fun landing at Princess Julianna :P

ILS is mostly used when visibility falls below the VFR minimum me thinks...

Glad you made it :)

TISX - TNCM is 98NM.

I flew the route at night just now, quite beautiful over the water :)

EDIT:

I actually flew it the other way around, but NVM :P
