Now to the subject, now 8-) i want to install gex and utx, if do so do i have to do the whole optimization again or just part of it ( if so can you tell me which part only ) it took me the better part of 2 almost 3 days to get this done and i hate to do this again, but anything to get this BEAST under control.
Thx in advance and feel free to add anything that i may have miss

If you went the whole NickN optimization route and bought O&O then after you install GEXn and UTX you need to run a defrag, actually you should defrag at least twice. If you are not in a hurry you can install one program one night, start the defrag before you go to bed and start it the next morning before you go to work, that way it is running when you are not using the PC. Also when running O&O it is recommended that you do not do anything on the PC until the defrag is completed.
NickN posted some setting recommendation for UTX, do a search in the forums and you can find them. I think that he also had some recommendations for GEXn, you can do a search for those too.
Regards,
Rod

The list assumes you installed everything before beginning however that does not mean you can not add things later or as you go
I run FSX on a 2nd drive to help keep it in better condition and make defrag maintenance easier
If you add huge addons like UTX you will need to rerun the defrag passes. If you intend to add more than UTX I suggest you get everything installed first, then do the maintenance
If you run FSX for a drive other than where the OS is installed then skip the boot optimize RUN command line for idle process tasks but follow the list for defragging again. It should not take as long as it did the first time but it will take time none the less.
Assuming you do not add anything over a period of time ... you still need to do maintenance every so often and I posted that list too.. how often depends on what you have installed and how long it has been since the last maintenance. Having FSX on its own drive also helps keep FSX from fragmenting no where near as bad as it may when installed on the Windows hard drive.

GEX is only textures so once installed the defrag does the rest
DO however run GEX last after all UTX products are installed and if you add another UTX package later ie;Europe then you do need to re-run the GEX installer and install UTX options again
As for setting up UTX.. that is by your preference however this is how I run mine

That shall be dubbed, "The Ultimate NickN post."
Seriously, perhaps you should start your own website on proper usage of anything remotely Flight Simulator-related.
I know a website designer who can help

How good is that.
Nick. Don't joke, write it.
I reckon everyone in the FSX community would have it open in their lap or propped up in front of their computer.
Write it, and I say again, write it.

Hi Subzero: the truth is every new simmer coming into the forum will ask their question in spite of this.
At the start most of us found it hard to put a question together, let alone know where to look.
The main thing is the mods send them to this thread immediately so others don't have to begin saying the same thing over again.
Nick: I am going to cut and paste your threads, and when I have I will post it back. Then we will have FSX for Dummies, and for Me!

LOL
You like that list and book, huh
Let me tell you the story of the empire who designed software to eat more resources than it ever should have,... and a guy named Mose...
"LET MY SYSTEM GO....."

I will copy the post and move it to the sticky thread at the top of the forum
