Does anyone know how to set up ILS? Also does plane land it self if you use ILS?

ILS will not land the plane for you, it can only line you up with the runway & follow the glideslope down to the runway, you will still need to set the aircraft up correctly for approach & manually land when you reach the last few hundred feet.

I learned from this youtube video. To me its a great way to learn visualy. I rote everything down on paper so you can remember.

Let me know if it works..and when you press the APP button (approach hold switch) dont press it like 15 miles out becuase when I did that and it wouldent line up quick enough.

You might want to start realistically..

ok wait i learned. But clarify this. When i am on final how do i lock on the localizer? I know you switch frequencies and set the heading for the runway but do i input the heading for course or the heading hold switch? That is what's confuses me.

Hopefully you do this right when the air traffic orders you on your final. Soon when you get close to the airport you will start to hear beeps. Thats sortof in my way telling you it knows where to go. So then (ill refer to the 737 panel) right next to the autopilot switch it should be to your left is a switch called APP (if you scrool over it, it should say approach hold switch) click that once you hear the beeps.

This should work and line you up with the runway but you have to desend and control your speeds on your own. Ive had problems a few times getting straight lined up but what I found out is that I was pressing the APP to late so it wouldent line up.

An ILS doesn't care what course (or heading) you have dialed in.. The way that the auto-pilot uses ILS is different than tracking a VOR. A course setting just makes it easier for you.. especially using an HSI (it's kind of silly to not dial it in, but it has no effect on either the auto-pilot or the CDI).

If you're asking howw to get the auto-pilot to track the ILS, it's the approach function. And that requires knowing how to set the approach up. You need to be lined up fairly well, and slightly under the glide-slope, and in landing configuration, and at the proper aproach speed.

All these terms and concepts and procedures are much easier to learn in small, slow airplanes. Not to mention that it will all mean more, and make more sense to you, learning it realistically. Jumping into a jet and then trying to fly instrument approaches by trial and error, will leave you with more questions than there are answers.

I have already practiced with props. Ok so pretty much it is manul flying until i hear the beeps? Then i set the autopilot, app, alt hold and speed?

Well I dont fly my jets manually the whole flight...

You can use the heading switch, auto throttle, altitude switch but once you set up your ILS and hear the beeps what I do is un activate the heading switch and activate the APP switch.

I learned in a bigger jet first..bad idea

What I would suggest is start in your favorite propeller airplane.

I i use the autopilot the thw whole flight i don't use it on traffic patterns and takeoff. Thanks for the advise guys!

When you use the autopilot do you also use the autothrottle, altitude hold, and heading switch?
