FSX (Acceleration) F-16?

Hello,

In the first place, I'd like to say that I'm new at the SimV forums.

Second: I currently have an update installed for Kirk Olsson's F-16. But unfortunately, the canopy is only transperant where the HUD is supposed to be. Does anybody know a _freeware_ F-16 for FSX (I have acceleration, if that's required)?

Thanx in advance.

Unfortunately, Kirk Olson's F-16 is an old model, and is not compatible with FSX/SP2. As far as I know, there are no other freeware F-16's built for FSX/SP2

But, as a nice little alternative, you can try the Mistubishi F-2, which is a Japanese F-16, which is freeware as well, and which work perfectly in FSX SP2 :)

You can fly Kirk's F-16 with the 2D cockpit and it works fine, the opaque canopy is only in 3D.  Also the problem is that the alpha channel on the canopy probably needs changed.  I have not tried this since I only fly this in 2D.  You can do a search throught the FSX forum on this site for alpha channel.  There are numerous threads that describe the problem and what can be done to fix it.

Rod

Thats a bit of a stretch calling it an F-16  ;D.  But you can definitely see the influences in the design.

Of course !! Most obvious one being the canopy ;)
I was just telling that this F-2 *could* be an interesting alternative.
As for Kirk's Viper, flying it from 2D panel is a bit sad, considering the quality of the view that you get in this bird (as in real life).
The opaque canopy can be fixed with DXTBMP I suppose ?

Flying Dutchman,

How did you change it?  I downloaded DXTBmp and changed glass_t from black to white and it had no effect.  I used the alpha channel send to editor icon and after I changed it to white I saved it.  Went into my texture folder and checked and it had been just saved.

Rod

glass_t is the wrong file.
You must have "imglass.bmp", make the alpha channel black and fly away :P

Happy flying :D

But even if you fix the blacked out canopy, aren't most of the gauges still incompatible with FSX, or has somone rebuilt the panel?

I a not aware of anybody having rebuilt the panel or even updated its gauges, sorry.

I might give it a try during the 10-week holiday (  ;D ), but I can not assure you. Even F I unserstand the gauges system, I wouldn;t know how th place them _properly_...

Thanks Flying Dutchman, I got it changed last night.

Esselbach, there is a panel update on this site, I never could get it to work, you may have better luck.

Ok, I downloaded the F-16, edited the glass alpha channel, installed the suggested panel, and installed the FSX update. A lot of the gauges in the 2d panel work, but none in the VC
