FSX addon issue

Every now and then I find a cool plane I like. I download it and use Additpro to add it into FSX. When i choose that plane  I get a message saying "model could not be displayed". I have checked the panel and sound .cfg files and everything seems ok. What am I missing? I even tried flying one of them. You could fly but no plane was there, very stealth-like. Any advice? Thanks in advance,  Ferg

What aircraft, specifically?

You most likely have installed an old aircraft with an incompatible 3D model format. (meaning that it was modelled with a tool that is too old).

For example, the default CFS2 planes will not work as well.

One example is the Edge 540 aerobatic.

I only found FS 98 and FS 2000 downloads.  It's likely the previous post is correct.  After downloading it and looking, it's "texture" files are a different format than the standard XXXXXX.bmp format, so SFX isn't seeing the texture.  That would explain the extraordinary stealth capability. ;)

The only solution would be to see if someone could do a repaint.

You might also want to check out the compatability guide.  It will save you a lot in the "frustration" department.  There are a lot of "oldies" that I'd like to see to, but it's just not possible at this time.

No aircraft model prior to FS2004 will ever display in FSX. Period.

Aircraft modeled with tools prior to FS2004's SDK are not DirectX compatible, so cannot be rendered by FSX. That part of the core engine has been removed entirely.

A good example is the Falcon 50 bizjet model. While it will load and display in FS2004 (FS9), FSX cannot even load the model, much less display it...  :'(
