I have FSX set up on its own drive.  Would loading FS9 on that drive affect FSX performance?

It shouldn't be a problem.  I have CFS2, CFS3, FS9 and FSX on my "C" drive, and in principle, if it works okay with all them loaded on the "C" drive, they should work on a "D" through "Z" drive drive.  After all, you're only going to be running one program or the other anyway.
