Another nHancer question for Nick

Nick -

Your setup guide for nHancer and FSX suggests using Supersampling, etc. however the text in this nHancer manual ( for V 2.1.0)

http://www.nhancer.com/?dat=d_enhancements

suggests that the suggested settings are not for GeForce 8800's and above.

Is this still relevant for nHancer 2.3.2 or the beta?

Thanx,

Vic

Who you gonn'a believe, me or Nhancer?

It is not supported as 'Supersample' by Nv engineering however the listing error is in Nhancer

The mode is actually Combined 8xS but any version of Nhancer before version BETA 2.4.05 has it listed under 'Supersample' 8xS. If you use the latest beta they fixed that and switched the availability of 8xS to 'Combined'

I did not take the time to explain that.. I just listed the correct settings to do the job right

BTW the latest Nhamcer Beta is 2.4.07 and together with Nv 174.74 (beta version for XP) I have found the best overall FSX result

Nick, my only disagreement with you is on AA through nHancer.

For whatever reason the sim runs much more smoothly with AA enabled in the game.   Apart from better performance there is no discernable drop in quality.

Can we count this as one of those machine based idiosyncracies?  Every other part of your formula works superbly.

Also I put ASX over the 4th core as has been advised so weather is not affecting performance either.

Well, your issue is unique

Your driving a massive resolution to tickle the Matrox THGo and therefore higher AA is going to be a killer to you

The setting of 4xS or 8xS is not resource killing to a normal system which has a certain spec of CPU and GPU, and, those settings make the visual much, much more realistic with less tree shimmer than anything else you can do.

I would not fly FSX on anything else but AA 8xS with it disabled in FSX. the tree shimmer alone would force me to not want to use the product

That's the mystery, I have no tree shimmer.

Also I set the anisotropic settings on nHancer exactly as you say, and of course have the LOD clamp enabled.  The result is no tree or building shimmer, although there is some errant 'lifting' some times on corners or panels of buildings.

OK, you are using high resolution so the shimmer is not an issue.. drop the resolution and you would see different

Its always a balancing act and settings depend on what it is you are doing. In your case the higher res resolves shimmer but it brings on the performance crunch

Let's see......based on track record - I'd have to believe you!  :)

Assumed that was the case but just wanted to clarify.
